We like to visit this park for a lot of reasons- there is a large field with a baseball and softball field on opposite ends and a path around it perfect for walking, jogging, pushing a stroller, riding bikes, and for dog walking. (The fields belong to a local public school and there is also a large concession building that has always been closed during our visits over the weekend and during the summer.) The field is great for playing football, field hockey, lacrosse, and soccer. Over the years we have always only seen people walk their dog(s) on a leash. We also have never seen dog poop left in the field and appreciate dog owners cleaning up after their dog(s). The path continues to a sidewalk and then leads through the parking lot back to the entrance/road or you can follow the path over the bridge towards 30th Street and Laskin Road. The playground is big and has a lot of age appropriate sections and swings. The landscape is beautiful and there are plenty of shaded areas and there are shaded parking spots as well.
When visiting with little kids we recommend bringing their small bikes, tricycles, scooters and helmets for riding on the path. Through the parking lot there is a large cul-da-sac circle that is a good spot for closely watching your kids ride in the circle. We like to bring a picnic/cooler packed and a blanket. If your kids enjoy going on nature walks and finding different rocks, plants, trees and tree sticks, insects, and birds this is a great garden and park for that!

Things to be aware of: Parents - the children's park can have nesting bees, so just double check - it's a marshland with vegetation, it's expected. Dogwalkers: leash them and pick up after your pooch, police frequent the area and do ticket. All: there can be vagrant/homeless group staking out at a pavilion to escape the sun - I frequent the park and haven't had any issues; most are friendly and mind themselves. The niceties: a getaway from the oceanfront, a nice paved loop probably over half a mile, a bridge where you can see plenty of snakes at low tide sunbathing or catching minnows, birds, and lots...
