The Statue of Amir Temur – A Monument to Power and Legacy.

In the center of Tashkent's Amir Temur Square stands the equestrian statue of Amir Temur (Tamerlane), the legendary 14th-century conqueror and founder of the Timurid Empire. The statue was unveiled in 1993 as a symbol of national identity and pride following Uzbekistan’s independence.

Crafted from bronze, the statue shows Amir Temur seated firmly on horseback, dressed in battle armor with his right hand raised in a gesture of leadership and command. This pose captures his historic role as a powerful and just ruler who unified vast territories across Central Asia, Persia, and beyond. At the base of the monument is an inscription quoting him: “Strength is in Justice.”

Surrounded by manicured lawns and flanked by significant landmarks like the Hotel Uzbekistan and the Amir Temur Museum, the statue serves as a focal point for the square. Its placement and scale reflect the importance of Amir Temur in Uzbek history and in the cultural rebirth of the nation.

The square is right in the heart of Tashkent. It is named after Amir Timur, whom Uzbeks honor as the founder of Uzbek statehood. This is the perfect place to start exploring the city. The famous landmark Hotel Uzbekistan is situated nearby, from where the city explorer bus (Tashkent City Tour) departs. A few museums are also located nearby, along with Independence Square (Mustaqillik Maydoni - the central square of the city). Tashkent is a rather underrated city. It doesn’t boast architectural masterpieces, but it is a very nice, clean, and safe metropolis. Unlike many other Asian cities, it is very orderly too.
