Lakewinds Country Manor — Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake

My fiancée lucked out and secured a last minute booking at Lakewinds Country Manor as a surprise birthday gift for me. The 5 star reviews we saw on here could not have been more accurate. The house is lovely and is in a great location across from the golf course and only a few short blocks to downtown. Our room (The Conrad) was gorgeous with a beautiful new bathroom and is well appointed with shampoos and lotions so good that we had to buy some to bring home. We spent 2 afternoons lounging by the pool before strolling back downtown for dinner and then returned to sit and relax on the beautiful and large front porch. On the first night Steve secured a reservation at Treadwell’s for us which we desperately wanted to get to but we’re unable to get a table. Within 10 minutes of arriving he called in a favour and got us a table. It was an excellent meal and we couldn’t be more thankful for Steve’s hospitality. Thelma provided us with the names of 2 cookbooks they use regularly after we commented on how delicious the breakfasts were. And we also visited her store to bring some mementoes and gifts home for family. We will definitely return and could not think of a better...

I had very high hopes for this property as it received GREAT reviews and the photos made it look amazing however...we were disappointed. ||Some pros...the staff were very friendly and pleasant. The rooms were very clean and the bathroom was very nice. The location is great - away from the downtown rush, sits on a beautiful piece of property and you can feel the breeze from the lake. ||Cons...the property is unfinished and I think for the money that is being paid, it should have been finished and better kept. The pool did not looking appealing to swim in as the water was murky - it is a beautiful pool and it being a hot day we were so looking foward to going for a swim but could not bring ourselves to get in. There were great reviews on the breakfast especially... the dining room area was nice and bright but the food was average and a little on the cool side (was expecting a hot breakfast) - nothing special. ||||Overall it is a nice place but the way that people went on about it in reviews and the cost to stay here - definitely does not measure up in my opinion. ||I would say it is overrated, I would say NOTL itself is...

We were at Lakewinds Friday night and Saturday night so that we could attend the Peach Festival. The Lakewinds hosts, Steve and Thelma, were very welcoming and friendly. You were made to feel at home immediately upon arrival. The room (the Gustav suite) was the nicest room we have stayed in at Niagara on the Lake over the past 19 years. It was so spacious, light, comfortable, and we enjoyed the big spa tub and separate toilet/bath areas, the huge comfortable king size bed, and the upholstered rocking chairs facing the television and the front windows. The complimentary water and coffee was also appreciated. As for the breakfasts (we had two mornings there), they were excellent, and they offer vegan, gluten free and lactose intolerant options. What I liked about breakfast was that it was buffet style, so you could take as little or as much as you wanted. The location is just outside of the main downtown, across from the golf course, overlooking the lake... absolutely beautiful and so peaceful!! We are definitely going to be staying...
