Twelve Flavors (Central) — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

We got there about an hour before closing to have a quick dinner at 9pm. We were greeted and seated and ordered by marking items on a laminated paper menu, which was handed to us. The restaurants concept provides for an online ordering website, but we prefer direct communication with waitstaff. As a party of four we ordered a non spicy "dry hotpot" (resembling a stir-fry )with two types of meat, shrimp, noodles and four types of vegetables: cauliflower, green beans, leaf cabbage and baby pak choy. We also ordered a cold dish: Steamed chicken with Szechuan pepper sauce and two hot dishes: Mapo tofu and beef with celery as well as a round of drinks. The cold food arrived at the table before the beer, but it was well prepared and tasty. Together with the beer two bowls of steamed were served. And then a big bowl came with a broth, pig intestine, slices of curdled blood, vegetables, squid and lots of chillies on top. This wass clearly something we had not ordered, so we called back the waitress having not touched the big bowl to clear up the misunderstanding. The waitress then insisted that we had ordered this and started arguing, speaking in a completely inapproppriate manner and not trying to solve the problem. The markings with erasable felt pen on the laminated menu, which had been taken away to the POS were partially erased already, but it was quite clear that the rice had been added by her and the two warm dishes she had logged in the system were the two dishes following the dishes we had orginally marked on the menu. Unfortunately the waitstaff was unable to acknowledge this error and argued only loudly and impolitely with local street language. It took at least 10 minute, during which we ate the cold dish and started to eat the "dry hotpot", which also had two extra ingredients we had not ordered: Wood ear mushrooms and dry/crispy peas. We decided not to complain about that, since the fun of eating out was already spoilt for us and we did not want to make it worse. Eventually another, much friendlier staff, probably a chef came to out table, heard us out and took the wrongly delivered dishes off the bill. The two hot dishes that we wanted were not delivered, since closing time was approaching now. We ate and drank what got now, only interrupted by the staff delivering and cashiering the bill mid-dinner. I have been a regular patron of this restaurant for quite some time, but I must admit that my recent visit left me feeling disappointed. The quality of the food seemed to have declined compared to my previous experiences.

One particular dish that stood out was the chicken wing with pork intestines lunch set. In the past, this dish used to come with a generous portion of chicken wings, but this time, I was surprised to find only four half chicken wings on my plate. The portion size was significantly smaller than what I had come to expect. It was quite disappointing, as I had been looking forward to enjoying a satisfying meal.

Furthermore, the taste of the food was not up to par with my previous visits. The flavors seemed dull and lacked the usual depth and richness that I had come to associate with this restaurant. It felt as though the dishes were prepared hastily, compromising the overall taste and quality.

I must say that this experience has left me questioning whether I will continue to frequent this restaurant in the future. The decline in portion size and the lackluster flavors have certainly dampened my enthusiasm. The day I went here with my boyfriend & we wanted to eat dinner at 9 pm, and their waitress said they needed to clean the kitchen and backyard, so they closed at 9:30 pm. We asked the waitress to double-check the closing time that they reported on Google & open Rice too, but it said ‘will be closed at 10:30 pm’. I think that was a pure disappointment because of the time arrangement for this restaurant. The attitude of the waitress who responds to our questions is very much poor and lacks customer orientation. Although the food was yummy from the previous experience, I had eaten the leftovers from my dinner, but I so disapproved of the waitress’ attitude.
