Facilities are nice and that’s the only positive feature I can’t think of. After my experience in this hotel I’m sure this is the only time I’ll be spending at Maree. |The quality of the food/drinks/overall service is just not right for the price. |Breakfast is small and not really tasty. I tried the scrambled eggs twice and they just didn’t have any flavor. |Boyfriend asked for cereal & yogurt on the first day. He was served half a small glass of yogurt and when he asked for more he was told the hotel would charge for the additional request. I’m sure half a small glass of yogurt won’t hurt the hotel finance situation that much. |My other comment on the breakfast is that the fruit served here is not fresh.|To be fair, the restaurant staff is friendly. |I made a reservation asking for a quiet room a month ahead of my stay. To my surprise, we were given a first floor room next to the reception bathroom with no view at all. |The receptionist was very rude. Didn’t make eye contact and the only thing she told us was to cancel our booking with a cancellation fee. (We were spending New Year’s Eve at this place so getting a last minute alternative stay was not an option). Spent about 30 minutes asking for a new room after talking to the manager. |We downgraded to a room which was on a higher floor and the manager offered a compensation dinner, which ended up being a compensation meal after 3 changes on the scheduled appointment from the hotel. The compensation dinner didn’t t include appetizers nor drinks (we were never told they weren’t includes and they made us pay for them at checkout). This is funny because I didn’t even get to eat the meal. I ordered a grilled fish which was dry, over cooked and just inedible (we made the comment to the hotel staff). |Every time we tried to solve things we got the same attitude from the receptionist, no eye contact, taking calls and talking to other people without solving any issue. Honest to god, it’s quite obvious this girl is not enjoying her job. |To make things worst, we booked a tour to Tayrona through the hotel staff at a cost of 180K COP. I found other sites in which the cost was much lower (140 K COP for foreigners and 90K COP for Colombian citizens) but I thought this would be a much better option since it’s recommended by the hotel. What a mistake. The tour just looks quite improvised. |We were picked up in a taxi which was too small for our party of 3+the driver+the tour guide. Our party was charged twice the cost of the transportation.|We were transported to Tayrona in a small boat whose motor almost didn’t start on our way back. No handles to grab on to and our buttocks hurt the next day since the trip is quite rough. |There were other groups traveling on cruise ships and catamarans, which looked quite comfortable. I’d recommend buying a tour which includes those boats. |We then discovered each of us three paid extra 40 K COP compared to everyone else taking the same tour (the others paid 140 KCOP). Furthermore, the tour was supposed to include a snorkeling activity which never...
Read moreThe hotel is pretty new, the rooftop pool is nice and offers sufficient space to relax (2 flatbeds and a hot tub). Also, the beds in our room were quite comfortable and the bathroom very modern.
There is a big bandwidth with regards to service... some staff members are very helpful and friendly, some others unmotivated or slightly rude. The ability/willingness to fulfill special requests is very limited and different to what you might be used to when staying at bigger hotels.
The breakfast is definitely a weak spot. You get to choose between 5 options of food and 4 options of drinks. Orange juice counts as an option so you can’t have both, coffee and orange juice. The eggs are tasteless... the complimentary small bowl of fruits was the same every day of our stay (melone, pineapple incl. the seeds, and papaya). You probably need a second breakfast...
