If you're looking for something unique and artistic, the Tree Top House is for you. This a family-owned/operated house that used to be an art gallery. Sabine, the owner, responded to our emails promptly before our arrival and she and her daughter were attentive and helpful during our stay. They helped us reserve a day at one of the zipline parks, connected us up with an expert guide for touring the cloud forest reserve and arranged horseback rides at their stable - Sabine's Smiling Horses. The house is built on a hillside with a main floor at ground level for sleeping and sitting areas and two apartments, one above and one below, where the kitchen and bath facilities are located. You can rent the apartments on their own or add the main floor for large groups. We stayed in the top floor apartment and had the house to ourselves during our stay, so I can't speak to noise between the floors. Read the reviews, look at the photos, and most of all, be honest with yourself about...
Read moreStayed here with my wife and kids ( 3 and 1.5) and 6 other members of my family extended family. We rented the entire house. Each of the rooms were kids friendly but the walkways between rooms were not. Location is good, with easy access to several restaurants, the Curi Cancha reserve, and monteverde cloud forest. Sabine (the owner) was great at answering questions and even made a reservation at a coffee / sugarcane and chocolate plantation for us. Kitchen (top floor) was nicely equipped given its size. You should be aware if your going to rent this house with a large group of people that the top floor is the natural gathering place and unfortunately neither of the beds on this floor is separated from the kitchen area by a door. This can be a problem if someone staying on this floor wants to sleep in. The floors also creak quite a bit and can clearly be heard in rooms below. Would still stay again inspite of...
Read moreWith 4 adults and 4 small children (the oldest was 10 years old), we loved this eclectic house. The children each had their own space and we barely saw them as they explored the nooks and crannies of the house. Meanwhile, the adults enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the toucans fly into the trees across the valley. We could easily walk to town and many restaurants and shops as well as the Bat Museum. This is also only a few minutes drive to several of the area Reserves and other activities such as hanging bridges and zip lines. Our favorite activity though was horseback riding. Sabine not only owns the house, but she also runs local horseback tours and the scenery was exquisite. The horses were well-trained and even our youngest 6 year olds were perfectly comfortable for the...
