We ordered the Margherita pizza, ensalada la plancha, and a limonada. The limonada was delicious- super refreshing a great mix of sweet and tart. The salad was grilled as the name would suggest, which, I’ve never had before, and have mixed feelings about. It had Swiss chard, and a mix of other greens, several were very bitter and had stems that weren’t conducive to eating in this manner (weren’t cooked enough and were a bit stringy, and weren’t removed as is more typical for a raw preparation). The avocado was also grilled, which was beautiful, but it didn’t really add to the flavor, just made it lukewarm. There were strawberries which complimented the sweet dressing well. It also had large slices tomatoes, slivers of red onion, red peppers, and radish. The pizza had good crust, but it was overly cheesy for me. I didn’t think the spinach was a great substitute for basil normally found on a Margherita Pizza, and the tomato was not sliced very thin and was a bit tricky to bite and gave those bites too much sweetness IMO. Lovely restaurant, kind staff… but this was the most expensive meal we’ve had in CR, so I had high hopes for this meal but was pretty...
Read moreWe ate at Don Luis twice during our recent stay in Monteverde and had fabulous experiences both times. Their food is delicious, with fresh, high quality ingredients prepared excellently. The atmosphere is beautiful with a very high quality natural wood structure and many interesting paintings and other wall hangings. They have an outstanding mostly Spanish guitar soundtrack that was playing both times we were there. Above all was the incomparable treatment by every member of the staff. They were all extremely attentive and expressed their desire to provide an extraordinary dining experience. Our main contact was with Elvis, who was extremely friendly and personable. He entertained us with many stories about the restaurant, Monte Verde, and Costa Rica, plus his personal history. We could not have been happier with any part of our...
Read moreAfter waking up at 3:00 am this morning, getting on a five hour flight, and driving for two and a half hours to Monte Verde we came to this amazing restaurant. We were seated almost instantly and our server, Dennis, was very kind to us and took our orders very quickly. We ordered, pineapple juice, lemonade and two cocktails which were house made, delicious, and refreshing. For the food we ordered a delicious charcuterie board, plantain and mango soups, pizza, and New York steak. Everything we ordered was absolutely stellar! The New York steak came with a block of Himalayan salt to cook it on which was delightful and unique! Lastly, we ordered the crepe with plantain and cinnamon topped with ice cream. The crepe was sweet and the ice cream was so refreshing, a perfect combination! This restaurant was so amazing and I would highly...
