My family and I are in Montverde for vacation and we're recommended to go to Thomas & Thiago. We were excited about having a great meal in a family operated restaurant. That excitement was soon extinguished upon arrival. We showed up at 5pm and we're told that they were on break until 6pm. We told the concierge that we would come back at 6. We returned at 6;06 and we're greet by the same employee who then tells us they will not serve us without a reservation. That would have been good to know at 5pm. There were many tables open. During the back and forth, the waiters and bartender were throwing paper wads at the employee while he was trying to get us a table. (I would say this was one of the most unprofessional events I have experienced as a patron in a family restaurant). With some time, we were seated. As we are being shown to our table, another server picked up the paper wads and disposed of them. We ordered our food only to be met with disappointment with the food equal to that of our service. Three members of our party ordered steaks that were so tough they could not be cut without great effort. My son ordered a burger that was served to him raw except for the grill burn on each side. He took a bite and had to excuse himself to the bathroom to vomit. We called the waiter over to return the burger. He offered a replacement but not an apology. We are very simple people and an apology goes a long way. Needless to say, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone from out of town. You do not want to waste your time and money in a place that clearly does not appreciate the value of...
Read moreThe food and cocktails were comically bad and expensive. My family is still in shock about how none of us 4 had a good experience. The cocktails all had a very odd taste that none of us could put our finger on. I don’t think they used fresh ingredients. The piña colada‘s tasted curdled. We ordered a burger, the ribeye (regular), the ribeye special, and the swordfish special. My son could only eat one bite of the burger. It was overcooked and over-slathered in a very intense, garlic butter sauce. The ribeyes were not seasoned and cooked poorly. The vegetable sides were disproportionate. The swordfish was over seasoned and was incredibly salty and garlicky. And I like garlic. The issue that bothered me the most was that the pasta was billed as homemade, and it was clearly boxed/commercially-made pasta - and it was overcooked and greasy. We really had high hopes for this restaurant since our driver to Monteverde recommended it highly. For the high cost of about $180, it was a huge disappointment. We hope the restaurant can succeed by really tasting their food and looking at what comes back to the kitchen uneaten. They may need a new chef or quality control. Good luck to you in improving, you have very nice staff and a...
Read moreWe cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. It was recommended by 2 people before we even arrived in Monteverde. It was only a block from our hotel. Our server Jesus beautifully described the specials, all locally sourced food and fish caught that morning. We started with guacamole and chips, it was served with 6 grilled shrimp on top. We had the ribeye (local beef) and the white fish. The vegetables were grown in Monteverde and included several varieties of squash we have never tried but were absolutely delicious. I have never enjoyed my vegetables so much. The beef was cooked perfectly. They were both served with sauce reductions that were very flavorful and complementary to the main course. The plates were artfully decorated to enhance the experience. Top it off with a delicious dessert of ice cream served in a mug with espresso and coffee liqueur. The prices are reasonable and the servers told us that in the recent competition of local chefs, the chef at this restaurant won...
