We met Dulce completely by accident. We were just walking up the road looking at birds and Dulce immediately showed us where some other birds were and what they were. We asked if she was a guide and were thrilled to discover she was.
We spent 3 weeks in Costa Rica doing all sorts of tours and Dulce was BY FAR the most knowledgeable, kindest, the most willing to help and most caring about leaving the wildlife alone and us just being visitors to their world. Some other guides would point out a sleeping tree frog for example and then wake it up with a stick and move it around for photos which we didn't like or want - especially when the next guided group 5 minutes behind us would probably do the same thing.
Dulce took us to a place not far away that we never would have found by ourselves and we were treated to some of most spectacular birds we've ever seen. Dulce took pictures and pointed out interesting things and told us more about the different species.
She was so desperate for us to see the things we wanted to see and we can't thank her enough for that.
I can't express how fortunate we are to have bumped into her, even after our tour together she helped us arrange transfer to our next location and we met up with her again later in that same week for a walk too.
What made Dulce really special was the fact that she understood we hadn't seen any of the wildlife before. Some guides were more "Oh that's just this, it's everywhere let's move on..." Dulce let us marvel and ask what it was and learn more about it, whatever it was.
Like I said we went on lots of tours and unfortunately several of them were very "tourism by the numbers". Dulce isn't. She cares about wildlife, she knows about wildlife and she is quite simply the best guide we've ever had.
We desperately hope to come back to Costa Rica one day and if we are anywhere near Montaverde we are going straight to Dulce first to see if she is free.
Please please please, if you are in the area and want to avoid the tourist traps, find the real places and see amazing animals and wildlife, go straight here. We will, and I'll be telling anyone I meet who goes to do the same. I wouldn't go to the trouble of writing this review if it wasn't to really encourage you to experience this EXCEPTIONAL tour guide yourself.
Dulce if you read this, thank you for everything, it was lovely meeting you and I hope we stay in touch. Thank you for being a part of our honeymoon to Costa Rica and we'll treasure the memories of everything we saw...
Read moreI had an incredible stay here. There are beautiful trails all around the home that are filled with different species of wildlife and vegetation. The home is very reasonably priced and spacious. It has two bedrooms, full kitchen and two bathrooms! The home is also wheelchair accessible which was a huge plus for my travel partner who needed these features. The need to see sights are all within short driving distance and the views around Monte Verde are incredible. Dulce is also very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. She is an expert guide and will share her...
Read moreMy husband and I had a fantastic time on our tour of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve with Marvin. He spotted resplendent quetzals twice in two different areas (the second time both a female and a male building a nest!), as well as a toucanet, tarantula, and several other birds and animals. He was very knowledgeable on flora and fauna, as well as the history of the area, and you can tell he's very passionate about wildlife. He took some great photos of the wildlife and of us :) I highly recommend booking a tour...
