We found this place last minute and wow, what a find. The place is owned by the same people as the Spanish school CPI. Which also has amazing grounds, so you know the gardeners are just amazing. When we got to the place there was only one other unit rented. The grounds were beautifully kept and well designed. We had a second story apartment with an view that you could see the pacific ocean on a clear day (which is not too often). ||The apartment itself was the cutest little thing, but had a full kitchen, full bathroom and to double beds. There was no A/C but a ceiling fan in the main room and bedroom which was more than sufficient. Monteverde (Santa Elena) is not a place where A/C should ever be needed. ||There was even a laundry room at our disposable, which was great to do a few loads of laundry after a couple of weeks of traveling. Full fridge kept the beers cold and there were only the little ants to contended with as far as bugs go. So bugs are prevalent in Costa Rica as one would expect in the Jungle country like Costa Rica. But the little ants were the only sign of insects that we saw. I do have to say, if you don't do bugs, don't come to Costa Rica, this is their home, we are just guests, but what an amazing place. ||I would highly recommend the Casas Del Toro apartments as your home away from home in Monteverde (Santa Elena). So maybe I should say why I keep saying Santa Elena. Monteverde is like the area or district, and the actual town is Santa Elena that is mostly considered the main part of Monteverde. There are two more towns in the area Perro Negro and Monte Verde. So it can be a little confusing, but they are minutes apart from each other, so just think of it as all Monteverde. ||Go enjoy all the wonders of the area and stay at Casa Del...
Read moreHistorically for me, lodging in MonteVerde has always been associated with Ecolodges and roughing it in a natural environment. It’s MonteVerde, it’s what it’s always been about: being a part of nature, seeing birds and animals all around, dealing with the bugs and cabin style beds. But I live in Costa Rica, I rough it a little more than the norm, and on this trip, I was looking for a little different, more comfortable, yet economically accommodating experience, and Casas del Toro, was beyond perfect. From arrival to departure, every detail was complete, every amenity was available, the beds were extremely comfortable, the view of the mountains was breathtaking and this place overall went far beyond my expectations. Besides the absolute general comfort of this place being spot on, the kitchenette helped us reduce costs from eating out the entire time and they had a laundry room available which made it great for washing and drying our absolutely soaked clothes at the end of our excursions. But I’ve gotta say, what set this experience apart for me, honestly, was spoiling myself a little bit in this generally rougher part of paradise: My sister and I did a lot of hiking and exploring in the few days we had in MonteVerde, but after being wet from trekking around in October’s rains, it was refreshing to come back to a cozy apartment, pouring ourselves a tall glass of freshly made Sangria (that I made in the kitchenette ☺️), then soaking my sore muscles in a warm bath, while looking out at the MonteVerde clouds looming over the majestic landscape. We were still surrounded by nature, but slept comfortably, and had an overall...
Read moreI stayed here 10 days while going to CPI ( a Spanish language School) . It was a 90 second walk to class. I do believe that also rent to non students but I could be wrong. I stayed in a tiny 1 bed studio apartment but there were bigger units available. It had an oven, a 3 burner stove , a small bar refrigerator, a Costa Rican coffeemaker and coffee, utensils, paper towels, dish detergent , dishes, pots & pans,a kitchen sink, hair drier & daily maid service. It also had tiny ants which were visible only if you left any food crumbs out. I was less than 20 feet from a workout room and a washing machine and drier. There were maybe 3-5 English language tv channels . The shower wasn’t always hot. There was a security guard at night , a locked front gate , and free parking was inside the locked gates. My problem with this place was it got down to 13c( 56 f) at night and there was no heat . But this is a Monte verde thing most places and homes there have no heat. It gets up to 22c(72) during the day and they just throw another blanket on at night. The town was one of the most consistently windy place I have ever been to in my life. Outside the front gate the prettiest scenic view in the area of the green fields to the ocean. Often people from all over stopped to watch the sunset here. It’s a short walk downhill into Santa Elena and there is an bus that picks up out front to go to the monte verde Cloud forest. There were lots of restaurants and stores within walking distance. There were 2 large supermarkets in town and an inexpensive $3|cab ride up the hills from main part...
