My wife and I stayed for a week at B&B Kastel 1700 Split for our five-year anniversary and had a great stay. The rooms are a bit small, but the location is great - right in Diocletian's palace and just a one minute walk from the beautiful riva promenade. There are countless restaurants, bakeries, shops, and bars just outside the hotel and its very close to the bus parking where we caught our tours of the area. The rooms are quite affordable given the prime location, but nothing luxurious. Although there were several bars and clubs right outside our room, once we closed the window, we couldn't hear the noise and had no trouble sleeping. Other guests walking up the stairs made more noise than all the drunk people outside. Since there were a lot of places just outside the room, we didn't get breakfast from the hotel initially. We also had them arrange a taxi to the airport on departure, which was very convenient since we had an early flight. Over the week that we stayed, we only had one issue and it was promptly corrected by the front desk. One evening, we arrived back late and tried to take showers, but there was no hot water. Thinking maybe other guests had used it up, we went to bed and tried again in the morning. Still no hot water. So we talked to the front desk and they let us take showers in an unoccupied room that had hot water while they looked into it. When we got back to the hotel later in the day, the front desk informed us that the water heater had gone out, but that they had replaced it. To compensate for our troubles (which really wasn't much trouble at all), they gave us free breakfast for a couple mornings and we had plenty of hot water for the rest of our stay. I appreciated them addressing our issue quickly and in a friendly manner. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely stay here again...
Read moreWe were a group of 6, staying for 4-5 nights. The location couldn't be better, almost built into the upper corner walls of the Emperor Diocletian's old summer palace (which is the centre piece of old Split). All the bars & restaurants, as well as the boats to the islands, are literally within 2-3minutes walk. The staff & level of service were superb for a compact boutique hotel. I travel a lot for work & Kastel 1700 is one of those hidden gems, you come across every few years. We booked early, so price wise, they were competitive & Wifi was good. While compact, the duplex double rooms were of a good size, with shared bathroom, which was fine. We were there mid May (which is an excellent time to visit Split, as its not too busy or hot, and restaurants don't require advanced booking, which is part of the allure of Split's old quarter). The staff were extremely accommodating, & all spoke very good English. They were willing to share some local tips on the location of ATM's (that didn't extract high commissions - spoiler alert - There are some tourist traps in the town) as well as identifying the shopping area with local (as opposed to tourist) prices, where you could acquire some great local wines at affordable rates. The staff were equally kind hearted about my repeated attempts to grasp the local language. I can't speak highly enough of the place, and all going well I will see you all at the beginning of September for my return visit. To all the lovely ladies at Kastel 1700, Hvala from...
Read moreThe first thing to know about our room can NOT be ignored -- we had to walk up three flights of steep stairs to get to it. After a full day of enjoying our time in Split, this is NOT how we would want to end the day. Also, it is NOT fun to go up & down these stairs to pick up something we forgot to grab on the way out. If you have any kind of problem about going up steep stairs, I'd recommend avoiding our room.||HOWEVER, this place is located near the harbor, the main bus station, old city, and typical pickup points for tours. Also, there are innumerable shops, restaurants, ATMs, and even a grocery store nearby. If location is important, this place would be hard to top.|Our room had shower, AC, in-room safe, coffee-maker, iron & board (small), mini-fridge, free wifi, and TV with scores of choices. It was clean, well-maintained, and quiet. Staff was willing & able to take our suitcases up & down the stairs, an example of their willingness to make our stay pleasant. |If you reserve directly with the hotel, and pay in cash, you can get a 10% discount.||If you can overlook the steep & long staircase to get to your room, this place is good value...
