I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights at the end of my Croatia vacation. I paid about 130 Euro per night, and I thought I got wonderful value for money. The highlights:
The staff and service are exceptional and among the best I have every experienced. Luka, Mario, and their staff are universally warm, professional and helpful. Examples include Luka meeting me at the bus station, giving me a mini tour of the hotel area, carrying my bag, and sitting with me over a beer to explain the city map and attractions. Mario was present at breakfast almost every day to check on people and offer help. The waitresses at breakfast were so nice. Even the cleaning lady refilled my water bottle each day from the tap and put it back in the refrigerator. You really get the sense they care about their guests and furthering their skills.
The room is lovely. I had a single room, and it was comfortable, well designed, and had nice details including a fridge, beach towels, bathrobe, and toiletries. Everything nice and high quality.
Good fast wifi with smart TV. Heating/cooling system that works and good water pressure and temperature.
Wonderful breakfast with everything you could want - coffee/juice/water, croissant with jams, yogurt, eggs that you order; apparently there is also dessert, but I never made it :)
Perfect location - No more than 15 minutes walk to any major Split attraction or transit area.
There is literally nothing bad I can say - maybe the single room needs a few more hooks to hang things, and the restaurant can get loud at night, but it closes by 11-12, so it is fine. There is no lift, in case you have mobility concerns.
I really hope to be back in Split at some point, and if I do, I will stay here- no need to...

Read moreThis is an intimate 5-room establishment situated amidst the alleys of the Old Town, hence cars cannot drop passengers at the doorstep. Easy enough to catch a shuttle bus for EUR 8 from the airport to the bus station at the port, from which a Makarun staff will meet you and assist you with your luggage to the hotel, a 10-minute walk away. Breakfast is a la carte, as is to be expected for such a small establishment, comprising 3 courses - pastry/toast, eggs of your choice with cold cuts, and a dessert, complemented by tea coffee and/or juice. Food was more than adequate in terms of quantity and quality. My room was comfortable enough, though 2 issues were noticeable:* Instead of a flat cotton bed sheet, there was a fitted sheet made of what seemed like jersey, and looked more like a mattress protector. This was pilled and coarse, in contrast to the far smoother cotton quilt cover. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they explained that this is standard for the hotel. Whilst it did not affect the quality of my sleep, the coarseness of the sheet wasn't entirely pleasant * In the bathroom, the shower was mounted at waist height, hence one either had to hold the shower in one hand, or, if there was a need to use both hands to wash, then one would have to crouch under the shower while it was in its holder. Not particularly convenient.Overall a comfortable stay in a convenient location, enhanced by the friendly and solicitous...
