Worst experience ever - complete customer apathy, chaotic breakfast, terrible housekeeping, bad infra - please stay away. Having stayed at hotels across 4 continents, I can hands down call my latest experience with NH Prague City as the worst ever. At every level my time at NH reeked of high handedness & insensitivity towards customers. From a chaotic breakfast to horrible housekeeping to erratic wifi & general transactional attitude, everything about the hotel is broken. The first odd thing I observed was that despite the hotel calling itself as a 4 star hotel, when I requested for tea & toothbrush in separate instances, I was told that I would need to come down to the reception as there is no housekeeping available currently. The fact that these instances were around 7-7.30pm in the evening made it all the more surprising. This is not a small town B&B we are talking about but a supposedly reputed Prague hotel. Then when I went to collect tea downstairs & asked for creamer I was told it's not available. Such a large hotel running out of creamer to go with tea is unheard of. I was told it will be available tomorrow. Same thing repeated next day - I went down and asked for creamer and it wasn't available. The third day I left a note in the room for the housekeeping to provide extra creamers. To my surprise when we came back, while the bed was made, no one had cleaned the tea cups & replenished the tea-coffee supplies. I called the reception to understand what the issue was & no one picked up after 3 attempts. So I again went downstairs, & found that only one person was attending the reception which was supposed to be manned by 5 people (had 5 separate terminals). He too was on phone & while I waited for a few minutes more people came around me waiting to talk to him about their issues. After his call was over he said - "who's first". He listened to my complaint & said it would be resolved. Then he said: "who's next". It was as if customers were being addressed on an assembly line. It's another matter that the issue didn't resolve now as well. I had to go to reception again to follow up. Post that a lady came, cleaned cups but skipped spoons & only brought sugar & tea without creamer. I again asked for creamer and she said I will have to collect from reception. I had to call reception again & the same lady turned up in a few minutes with multiple creamer satches. She didn't even look at me, handed me the satches and left. This experience generally reflected a lack of coordination & absence of customer focused attitude. The other major issue with the hotel is its chaotic breakfast which is both ill-designed & badly managed. Despite a large space, perhaps because of the layout people were constantly running into each other. Also the plate size was really really small for a buffet. I have seen small plates at several other places as well but they generally come with trays to help manage things better. Also the rate of replenishment was not great. While it is already the longest bad review I have ever written for a hotel but there were other issues too. The AC was ineffective as the room was always hot whatever setting we kept the AC at. The blanket size was really small even for someone like me who is of an average height by European standards. The bathing area was inconvenient as the high bath tub made getting in and out a bit uncomfortable. For those with mobility issues, it can be a big problem. The wifi too kept disconnecting and was patchy. I preferred relying on my mobile internet for most things. The final minor thing is the location. It's around 7-8 minutes walking from the nearest tram station but the area just before the hotel is a dark and large parking lot which makes entering the hotel a bit gloomy. While checking out, no one bothered to ask "how was the stay" which too showed that no one really cared. All in all, I don't think I will ever stay in an NH property...
Read moreRoom : 4/5
(Initially they provided rooms with two separate single beds, we mentioned while booking that we are a couple and need double bed room only, i strongly advise everyone if you are a couple, emphasize them while booking to give room with double bed)
View from room : 3/5 (Nothing special , we booked room in upper building considering we will get good view, we even asked for room with outside view while booking, but they told they didnt receive such request and provided us room which has no outside view and small garden like area outside room with garbage just beside it, atleast they could have made that area beautiful by good chairs and tables and keeping garbage away. I strongly emphasize anyone who want room in upper building , ask for room with good view while booking, else it is waste to spend extra 20-25euro for upper building as you can go to cable car anyhow even if you dont stay in upper building)
Room service and hospitality : 2.5/5 (Could have given more, but they didnt provide room service , asked to come to reception if we need anything. Even they didnt provide water bottles - only paid water, no mineral water or water from water purifier. one bottle was kept on desk along with tea-coffee stuffs and as it was with tea-coffee freebies, we didnt realize it is paid and opened it, then just looked at price tag over bottle and asked them and then they told it is paid. They should have told this while check in. While i talked to front desk manager, she assured it is fine, we wont be charged as we opened unknowingly but while checkout they charged 150CZK for that, we even checked out at 4am in morning, didnt have breakfast that day though booked room with breakfast, he could have shown some hospitality and waived off that bottle charge, it wasnt big amount but it expresses their hospitality. Infact, he was so rude, i just asked if he can cancel charges for that, he told he will charge from credit card , he wasnt understanding or listening at all, he was like we r running without paying it to him, not even listening. While checkout , this incidence spoiled our mood and made bad impression of NH hotel ,else we were really happy with room.)
Hospitality inside restaurent : 4/5 (Ms.Aneta was very grateful, made french fries for us upon request as we are pure vegeterian and they didnt have anything in breakfast which is without egg/fish/meat except fruits and bread butter, so we asked them for veg food if they can prepare frenchfries or anything, and without any hastle, she told yes and made it next day as well. I wish same hospitality their front desk and reception managers had.
They also provided welcome drink on check in, which is also good sign of hospitality for 4* hotels, which we didnt feel in other hotels in vienna and salzburg.
View from cable car and sky longue is awesome, cable car is amazing and it doesnt take much time at all. Must recommend anyone visiting prague to visit NH hotel atleast once, i wish their hospitality and service were also upto the mark, then i could have strongly recommended stay as well.
Toiletries : 4.5/5 (Almost all toiletries they provided without asking, and of good quality as well)
If anyone is indian/vegeterian, one restaurent named Taj Mahal express is just besides NH Hotel and having delicious indian food. Guy as restaurant also exchanges euro with good rates..
Hotel is 500mtr walking distance from nearest metro station Andel, Location wise it is not perfect for travelers as it is far from city but i still liked it.. They mentiond online they they provide shuttle service but they dont, on request upto 6-7pm, they provide cab to drop at Andel metro station, but it is not regular shuttle service by which you can return also from particular...
Read moreUnfortunately, I only stopped at the NH City Hotel for two nights whilst doing some business in town, but if I return for pleasure, I know where I’ll be stopping!
The hotel itself is situated on the other side of the river, approximately a 20min walk from the Astronomical Clock (be aware – I have long legs and was on my own. If you’re bringing your young family plugins, you might want to get a taxi, which I’ve been told makes it an 8-ish minute journey). It’s also not too far away from quite a busy mall, complete with one of the best Starbucks I’ve been to recently and a range of popular brands.
The hotel has underground parking, accessed via a slip road from the 605 Duškova direction. If you come via the tunnel, expect to get lost trying to find a way in that doesn’t involve going the wrong way up a one-way street. You have been warned.
Inside the car park, you’ll find a series of spaces and MANY concrete pillars – again, be warned. The spaces themselves are fine and plentiful, but tighter than your favourite pair of jeans after Christmas.
Once parked, there’s an elevator to the first floor, which is reception. The staff were really friendly; I arrived early, and they looked after my bag whilst I explored Prague waiting for my room to be serviced and made available.
The room was totally serviceable: clean, not tired, and well insulated from noise and heat – 32 degrees outside, maybe 20 in the room. The bed was a double-double (whatever the proper term is), and there was complimentary water with herbal teas. No iron in the room, but it could be requested and did the job.
Food is an interesting one. There’s no evening restaurant in the hotel, but there is in the adjoining (by flipping cable car!!!) Collection Hotel. I didn’t venture because cable cars are witchcraft Victorian technology, and whilst I did climb the hill to see the Collection Hotel, I’d already eaten so didn’t go in. You can also eat in the Red Bar, where food is bar-snacky( club sandwiches, burgers, etc. )and served by an awesomely friendly guy.
By the way, everyone speaks a reasonable level of English in case you’re like me… English.
Breakfast is a buffet, with omelettes made fresh by a friendly person – thank you. Weekdays it’s served from 06:30 through to 10:00.
Other nice featurer: on the top floor the hotel has bees. Wholesome.
So in a nutshell: I enjoyed the place. I’d come back. Marked down only because of the need to use "transport" to reach the restaurant in the evening. But I would come back. And hope that I...
