If you’re fortunate, the biggest problem you’ll have at a hotel will be relatively minor: not enough pillows, weak water pressure in the shower or a not so impressive view out the window.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t always work that way.
Before I mention the experience that my family and I had in April 2017, here are just a few comments that I found here on “Google Maps” under reviews, about Hotel Bervic Montmartre…
Approximately 13 months ago: “Smoke free… is a joke! The room smells like hell. There were even holes in the sheet, made by cigarettes. The WiFi… excuse me, is there really WiFi? No! The WiFi only worked at the first floor. Oh my… and the noise keep me awake at night after a tiring day. I will recommend this hotel to my enemy.
Approximately 17 months ago: “Just awful and I will never recommend! The bathroom was filthy as though the dirt was from several months as well as all the black long hair even in the bed! The toilet barely flushed and barely any paper. The shower was a rollercoaster between hot and freezing water, towels were not replaced and sometimes were dirty when replaced! The neighbors were so disrespectful. A toddler, 4-5 years old, crying at 2am, loud music and drunk people that think that they can sing. The beds were really disgusting, totally dirty mattresses with dirty bedspreads and the morning wasn’t any better…” (This comment was translated)
Approximately 3 years ago: Taking showers was impossible, water shifted repeatedly from scalding hot to cold. The neighborhood was really rough, did not feel safe walking down the street and people kept catcalling my daughter. Also, the fistfight on the street kept us awake and the sirens didn’t help.
And there are many recent comment as well…
Now, where do I start… we experience many of the fore mentioned circumstances. People slamming doors, some woman crying, someone taking a shower all night, dog barking, the room was cold, and we didn’t use the bathroom because it looked nasty. Since we arrived in Paris at around 10pm, we had no choice but to stay the night. We were hungry, so we walked a couple of blocks to a nice little take-out place and eat, but I didn’t feel safe walking around with my wife and daughter. And there is so much more…
So, that same night I went online and reserved a room for my family at another hotel for the remainder of our stay.
The next morning, we woke up early, went to the front desk and returned the keys.
This is “Nightmare on Elm Street” meets “Bates Motel”....
Read moreThe Noise cancelation windows in this hotel are just amazing. I had room 118 facing the church and main place des abbesses and closing the windows completely mutes outside noise! Plus the church doesn't ring its bells between 9pm and 10am, how cool and considerate is that?
The bathroom was super clean, well equipped with a hair dryer, towels galore, soaps and cream.
If you have back problems you will love the bed as it is extra firm, a bit too firm for my liking but I still managed to sleep very comfortably.
All rooms are equipped with a beautiful TV with all types of channels from local to American channels CNN and the option to change languages to English on some channels ... Wifi worked perfectly so I was able to take care of the business I was there for.
The only thing that barely bothered me is that the walls are made of wood and transfer some noise from neighboring rooms but nothing that can't be solved by a little knock on the wall and I think they try to distance guests to avoid this issue.
The self service buffet downstairs is super affordable for tea or a soft drink, only 2 euros! So you can always have a hot beverage or snack before going to bed
Finally the owner is suuuuper nice and is very careful not to offend his guests in any way, very quiet, accommodating and considerate man!
Sooo many restaurants, shops, bakeries, and pharmacies steps away to buy really cool products from. And sacre Coeur and Montmartre which are my favorite sights in Paris are a 5mn walk away! I was there alone and felt very safe going in and out in the neighborhood at night.
I really enjoyed my stay and at the price I paid 40 euros/night it was a...
Read moreOnline photographs of the guest rooms Hôtel Bervic Montmartre offers might lead you to believe that they are rather spacious - and that, they are. The rooms are rather tall and capacious. The issue is that their floorspace is severely exaggerated and thus their rooms are rather unpractical; even more so if you happen to be carrying a large volume of luggage. There is a large variation in guest room quality and bathroom quality, too. Some rooms are more modern well-kept, with windows, modern furnishings, large windows, and clean, new bathrooms. Others are almost the opposite, with visible decay on walls and furnishings, as well as less hygienic bathrooms. Apart from the disparity in room quality, and overall lack of space, the beds are comfortable and more than enough for overnight stays. Night-time staff are friendly and helpful, although daytime staff are very easily irritated and unwilling to help in most situations. The location is somewhat convenient, but a car or public transport pass would help to allow visitors to access all parts of the city, especially most tourist attractions in Paris. There are some supermarkets, food chain restaurants, and local shops nearby. Free parking is limited during the day but readily available during the night. Overall, the Hotel is satisfactory for overnight stays, as long as you are aware of what to expect in terms of room floorspace...
