Restaurant Review
My wife has fond memories of Hotel next door (Herodean) with her sister years ago, so we stayed for our visit this year (2022). Menu looked excellent so we gave it a go after a day in the museums.
Food. Excellent! Wife had beet root salad that she still gushes about followed by the lamb stew. I really enjoyed the potato soup followed up with a traditional Greek chicken dish that great. We really wanted to try a passion fruit dessert dish but just could manage the room.
Service. Prompt. Friendly. Very good English (important to me because my Greek is non existent). That said, it was a slow night with only one other table. (We came in the heart of the off season)
Environment. Romantic cozy. Antique menagerie. Good spot for first date or 50th anniversary. Lovely.
Summary 4 stars. I rarely give 5 stars (2 to date) but came real close to my third on this one. Food was five stars and price was in line with sit down cloth napkin establishment. Very cozy. I highly recommend for special occasions, like anniversaries or Valentines Day or because you’re in Greece.
For those who do not know me from my other reviews: I am not prone to hyperbole or drama. Eateries are judged by food, service and environment; in that order and in context with expectations. I like picking new places. If it is a place I go to regularly, I...
Read moreGiving two stars because our first experience was fabulous. Good was top quality and delicious. Our second visit was the opposite, however. The same dish i had was extremely dry. The waiter messed up on putting the order in on two of the four dishes for our group. He apologized, but two of us finished before our other two were served. Then came the bill. Confusion set in as the bill came, and we figured out our parts to pay with one card. Then the waiter came back asking for more money because he billed us for the two wrong dishes. He claimed not to understand that we at least wanted a recept if we had to pay the extra. Almost any other restaurant would charge us the slightly lower price with their mistake. It ended up being extremely difficult to have them give us a recept, and we finally just paid it and left. It was sad as the first time we were hooked and would have been back yet again another day. We will not be back...
Read moreFirst impressions are important and this place surely made our dinner the most pleasant experience of Athens. We had a warm welcome as soon as we stepped through the front door. A surprising element after we ordered our meals and wine, they brought us a welcome soup in a cup, Absolutely delicious. Myself I had a beef dish with sweet potatoes mash and spicy corn. Delicious and mouth watering dish. The beef pealed off without much effort. My wife took a chicken with mash potatoes with truffle and green pea pure. Well balanced and soft chicken "best chicken I ever had" according to her words. The service is 5/5, very attentive and kind. The waiter actually did wait for my return from restroom before opening the wine we ordered.
Our last evening in our trip to Athens ended with an a big smile and great satisfaction of our meals.
You should definitely include this cozy restaurant in your must do list while...
