We spend 4 nights in mid-May in Studio 1 and loved every moment of our stay! Oia is an incredible place, and there's nothing quite like staying the very heart of it. Don't let anyone talk you into staying outside of the main hub; it simply will not be the same experience!||||Emily and Gil were so very helpful and responsive by emails before our arrival. And upon arrival at Santorini airport, we immediately spotted our driver, who we had arranged through Emily. He dropped is at the closest proximity to our room, and Emily and her brother carried our luggage through the squares, and down the steps to our room. Very smooth and easy.||||Our room was at the "top level" of Old Oia Houses, but be aware that is about 30-35 steps below the main pathway through Oia, where the owners' restaurant, Lotza, is located. Studio 1 is right off that path, behind a locked private gate, just for Studio 1. The other rooms/houses are behind a separate locked gate, with additional stairs down to those rooms.||||We absolutely loved the enourmous private deck of Studio 1. We had a table/chairs, 2 lounge chairs, and an umbrella on our deck. But we also loved the room, with it's arched ceiling, full-equipped kitchenette (including coffee maker/coffee). We bought yogurt and fruit from a local mini market just 1-2 mins away from the room, and combined that with the bread we got fresh every morning. The beds/pillows were comfortable, the bath/shower just enough space, we we loved the style of the shuttered windows and door. The WiFi was excellent. The breeze coming through the windows and doors off the caldera was perfect. But that view of the caldera was what I will always remember!||||Emily was always available be cell phone for any questions, and helped us arrange a number of things during our stay, including a last-minute drive and restaurant reservation in Ammoudi Bay our last night, and our transfer to the port upon departure (again, the boys carried our luggage up the stairs to the driver for us!).||||The one thing I will note is that the gate to this room is on the main path to the castle area (which is just 2 minutes walk from the room), and so the path gets very crowded starting about 3 hours before sunset. Also, the balcony are is not completely closed in, so people on the path can see the Studio 1 deck, but cannot get to it. Neither of these things was every a problem for us; it was completely overshadowed by the view we had, so our backs were always to any crowds at sunset :-) ||||We absolutely loved every aspect of our stay at Old Oia Houses, including a dinner and a breakfast we had at Lotza. Thank you so much Emily and Gill. Hope to see you...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights in September during our big 25th wedding anniversary trip between Rome and Athens. It was wonderful break from the week in Rome. Emily was a sweetheart who would and did anything she could to ensure our stay was exceptional. Right from beginning when we booked our trip with them to the day we departed - courteous, helpful and caring. She provided us with a number in the event we ever needed her even during her off time and her mother was the same - great people.||||When we arrived we were given directions to their Restaurant that they own in order to book in (easy to find) and since we had only carry on size luggage - easy for us to navigate the steps etc. Emily greeted us with a hug and smile so it started great from the start. She took us to our room which down a few steps and along the winding paths of Oia. There as a big door which she opened and when she did the view of the Caldera was magnificent. We had to walk down quite a few steep steps but your in Oia and if you want the Caldera view steps are inevitable. It was exciting to experience all of it. The view was exceptional. Our cave house I believe had the bigger balcony (yes adjoined with the smaller room right beside us but that was not a problem). The cave room was large with a separate bedroom and a separate large bathroom - beautiful actually. Simple yet had everything we needed. Very comfortable. We were given some beers and a bottle of wine for our anniversary which was a lovely touch. The fresh bread hanging from your door every morning was a great start to the day and there was jams, butter and honey in the fridge as well.||||If ever back in Oia - this is where we would stay and would recommend...
Read moreMy friend and I planned a girls’ trip to Greece to celebrate our birthdays. My brother and his wife visited Greece a few years ago and suggested that we stay at Old Oia Houses while in Santorini. I am SO happy we followed their advice! We stayed in Cave House 2, which had beautiful views of the caldera. The location of the cave house was perfect since it was within walking distance to attractions but was slightly distanced from the main tourist walkways. The cave house featured a kitchenette, fun-looking cave shower, a unique cave closet, and two bedrooms with full sized beds. ||My friend directly contacted Gill via email to book our reservation, and she was always very responsive via email. We had a slight travel issue due in the beginning of our trip due to a delayed flight and missed connection on my friend’s part. Gill was very kind to us and still arranged for my friend to have a transfer separately pick her up a day after I arrived at our planned time. ||Emily (Gill’s daughter) was the best! She met me at the transfer point upon arrival and had my bags carried to the cave house for me- she also did the same for my friend a day later. She took time to give us a tour of our cave house and made us feel like we could reach out to her for anything we needed. ||Gill and Emily’s family own a restaurant close by (called Lotza), which served AMAZING Greek food! The views from the restaurant are just as wonderful as the cuisine, so I highly suggest having at least one meal there. ||All in all, I would highly recommend staying at Old Oia Houses! (P.S. I still miss sipping juice and eating the freshly baked bread while gazing at the...
