We spent only one night at this shabby place and next day we ran away and easily found a much better place for a lot less money. The weather was very rainy during the first week of February and every hotel we entered in Flores had vacancy. Hotel Mesa has nothing that could appeal to a traveller. The reception service was the worst I have ever experienced. When we arrived at the hotel we waited 20 minutes with other travellers for someone from the hotel staff to show up. We searched for the receptionist and found a lady in the hotel's restaurant hanging out with the the restaurant staff. We figured that anybody could enter the hotel and the staff does not really care. We asked the lady to show us the rooms and all of them were at a really low standard. Because of the heavy rain we gave up and decided to take one of the rooms that seemed to at least have windows. The condition of the bathroom was poor and we had to go to reception to ask the staff to start the A/C (the fuse was turned off in the main electric panel) and get the TV remote control. We planned to have a walk and ask the receptionist to mark our hotel on the map which we found in the reception but she had no idea where the hotel was. We asked for the name of a front street and she did not know. The antique computer for guest use was out of order and it seemed like it had been broken for a long time. The hotel restaurant was empty and pricey by Guatemalan standards.||The noise from the street made the night miserable. From as early as 4-5 am the transportation vans from travel agency starts to pick up tourists for Tikal. Honking and shouting was just standard. ||We think that for some reason many family owners of Flores hotels just try to make a quick buck at minimum cost and this is the case with this hotel. My advice is: try to avoid...
Read moreI recommend Hotel Mesa de los Mayas in Las Flores, Guatemala as a great budget-friendly option for travelers. My stay was pleasant and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The double room is equipped with air conditioning, a fan, cable TV, and a private bathroom, although the AC is a bit old and noisy, fans are also available. The staff is very friendly and helpful, always willing to assist you in any way they can. The restaurant offers a varied menu, although I didn't get a chance to try it. The hotel has hot water and Wi-Fi. However, it's important to note that the restaurant isn't always open and they only accept cash payments. Overall, this hotel is a great option for those who want to have a comfortable and clean place to rest for the night. Additionally, as per other reviews, the hotel is also suitable for large and noisy groups, which can be an advantage if you're traveling with a group of friends. I highly recommend this hotel as an affordable and functional choice for your stay in Las...
Read moreWhen our original reservation across town got botched, the owner of Mesa de Las Mayas took us in at the last minute. Our room wasn't anything fabulous but it was everything we needed. The hot water worked and the beds were comfortable. The building itself is really cool and I enjoyed the balconies. The restaurant was also good for breakfast. More importantly, the owner took care of us. One morning, my dad and I got up at 3am to meet a tour guide for a sunrise tour of Tikal (highly recommend). The owner was still awake when we went out and he actually stood outside with us. I wasn't worried at first, but once we got out there I realized I was really happy to have his company. Especially since our tour guide was late. Once we realized something was wrong, the owner also helped us get in contact with someone who could take us and saved our trip. He might have saved more than that. I really...
