Restaurante Al Comal — Restaurant in Flores

I absolutely hate giving a low rating to a restaurant in a vibrant colorful city with friendly people. Came here because our Tikal guide recommended it for steaks. It’s a hole in the wall restaurant but overall has a cute authentic vibe. And has a couple of ACs.

Owner was very friendly at first and recommended us two cuts. Moved us to a new table because AC on the other part wasn’t working. We ordered the 2 medium rare steaks he recommended. Sadly afterwards he disappeared. None of the other staff spoke English. There wasn’t any other table. Despite that, there was a wait for 35 minutes for the entrees. Out of two steaks, one was completely gray (it was a thin cut too) and the other was medium rare but was just a bad cut overall.

Had MUCH better steaks at two other restaurants in Antigua. So whoever says that this is the best steak in Guatemala either hasn’t tried red meat in their lives or they were high/drunk.

Honestly, best food in the entire island!!! Absolutely DELICIOUS surf and turf cooked perfectly with rich flavor! Out of every place on the island that’s trying to cater to foreigners with pizza, pasta, and burgers, the food here is a simple straight forward menu, with food that packs a DELICIOUS authentic taste of food made from scratch, it’s like home cooked food with island flavors. Something my Guatemalan Grandma would serve. Loved it! Loved the owner who is the waiter, Mr. Yael, and his talented wife the chef. Give this place a try; I know it’s a bit expensive but worth EVERY PENNY!

De verdad la mejor comida de toda la isla! Todo estaba delicioso era como que mi abuela lo hubiera cocinado, Y ella es guatemalteca. La carne, los camarones —- todo estaba muy delicioso, Los jugos, el café —- deliciosos. Aquí en la isla y a todo es pizza pasta y hamburguesas, ya de verdad ya no hay sabor acético pero este restaurante se acaba los mejores sabores de las comidas de casa tan simples extremadamente deliciosas! Don Yael es el dueño y es muy amable! Su esposa es la que cocine y también es muy talentosa. Este lugar si está un poco más costoso pero...

This place is the bomb. Owner is super friendly and clearly passionate about his business, service was excellent, food was fantastic.
