Spent a week in Dublin, reviewing Guinness. as recommended this place. I write fair reviews. This is from my visit there two days ago. Unfortunately out of the many many places I went for Guinness, this was by far the worst pint I had in Dublin. Service and friendliness also not up to par like other places. My pint was poured very quickly, with less than a minute in between first and second pour. While the barmen were chatting. Then to my surprise put in front of me with a massive head, over twice as big I have ever had in Ireland and many places in London.
After mentioning the head being too big, the barman said it was because the bar was uneven. Only after I picked up the glass and held it straight and clearly showed it was too big, he took it off me, without saying a word and overfilled it, put it back on the counter with it all over flowing over the glass. The other barman tried to charge me for 3 drinks when I had one. I would have had more if it was a good pint.
I clearly felt, no passion was put into not only the pint but the service in general. I went there as it was recommended and was my last one in the city but on tasting it, it was terrible! It dripped on me and all over the floor when I picked it up, even though I held it straight. So not just worse pint but worst pub experience, my whole stay in Dublin, one of my worst Guinness experience to date in fact and I have been drinking the black stuff since the early 80's and both folks from Ireland.
I then went to the airport and thought what the hell, I may as well have one here now and it was surprisingly really good! much better than at the palace, so I had 5. Sorry to give such a review just before xmas but it is...
Read moreThe best pub in the Temple bar area by a country mile. It's bit pricey, but not as bad as some of the main Temple Bar spots and much better.
Pub is 200 years old, there's the downstairs bar with a whiskey saloon bar upstairs. 3 different types of stouts on tap. Any would be up there with being the best stout in Temple Bar. They do Guinness and Beamish, and they do their own branded stout. "Changing Times Brewery Clockwork stout," which is very good indeed. They do a lager and IPA, but why bother with that when there's sweet, sublime stout?
I stuck with the Clockwork stout when I started drinking it, and I'm normally a Guinness man through and through, make of that what you will.
I've been drinking here 30 odd years, and it's always great craic with tourists and locals feeding the footfall for the pub.
Visit upstairs and downstairs for the different vibes, though, be advised upstairs is only accessible by a long set of stairs.
No food, a gastropub it is not.
Again, in my opinion, probably the best pub in the...
