DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL IF YOU VALUE YOUR SAFETY!!! This would have been a 5 star review as the Temple Bar Inn was very conveniently located near restaurants, bars, shopping and sights and the rooms were spacious and clean. However, we had an incident that changed the review. There were 3 of us, all women, occupying the room and 2 of the 3 of us were asleep. Around midnight, I heard our door unlock and turned in bed to see a silhouette of a man stepping through our doorway. As he continued several steps into the room, I screamed and woke up the other 2 ladies in the room. After about 30 seconds (which felt like an eternity) of my screaming to “get out” the man finally said, “oh, okay” and turned around and left the room. The three of us immediately ran to the door and propped the heavy footstools and chairs against the door in an attempt to secure the door and then we called the front desk. We were told by the man at the front desk that the issue must have been that the keys were not recoded and he said that he would inactivate our keys and that we would have to come to the front desk to get new keys. He also told us the intruder was likely a man who was just drinking at the bar in the lobby who he saw leave. At no time did he offer to deliver the keys to us. We were terrified and did not want to venture into the hallway not knowing if the man was still there or not. After seeing someone walk up and down the hallway several times (through the peephole) we called the front desk again who stated that they did a security sweep through the hallway and told that the threat was “likely” neutralized. Needless to say, we did not sleep at all that night as we were terrified at the thought of someone entering the room. After the sleepless night, we went to check out of the hotel as early as we could, and as we checked out and discussed the matter with the man at the front desk we were told that he watched security footage which showed that the “man did not use a key and that our door was ajar” and stated that it was our fault that this occurred. This is an even bigger security concern for us and this hotel, as we are three single women traveling together; we always double and triple check our doors in hotels to make sure they are closed before going to bed at night. The door in our room was securely shut when we went to bed…hence if they state that the door “was ajar” then there is a very significant issue with the locks in the room. The fact that the man at the front desk blamed us, they did not offer any help to make us feel secure in the middle of the night (except for doing a “sweep” of the hallway) and left us with deactivated key cards (so if we needed or wanted to leave our room in the middle of the night we would have been unable).
Our biggest concerns were that the man (who said he was in charge) never apologized, nothing was done to make us feel safe in this hotel and he blamed us for the door being “ajar”. The questions we have are how do you see that the door is “ajar” in grainy security video (which we were never allowed to see)? We double checked that the door was completely shut before going to bed so if the door was that far”ajar” that it was seen in a security video then there are very significant security issues with the locks in your room. And also, why did I hear the door “unlock” which made me turn and look over towards the door at midnight if the door was “ajar” and the man did not use a card to enter??? We would not recommend this hotel to anyone who values their security, safety and most importantly, wishes to be treated with respect, as three women who had a very traumatic incident happen, had no assistance from this hotel and will likely never feel safe to stay in another hotel again as we will forever relive...

Read moreI dont like writing poor reviews but my wife and I did not have a good experience at The Temple Bar Inn. We booked our room a couple of months ahead of time and once we arrived, Rachel at the desk with a constant confused look told us we didnt have a room for that night. As they overbooked. For their mishap, they set us up for the night at a hotel across the street. It was fine but after 18 hours of travel, you dont want a problem on arrival.
So after that first day we were spending two nights in Galway and coming back to Temple Bar Inn for our remaining 7 days. So I went to Rachel and simply wanted to know if we had our room for our booked dates. Her reply: "I think so." I wasnt leaving the front desk until I heard "yes". After a good half hour of "You should have a room" and "I think everything is all set" I got my yes, and another confirmation.
So, what do you get for 216 euro? A tiny room. We ordered a double room and the double couldnt fit our two suitcases anywhere. We kept tripping over them each visit to the bathroom.
Does 216 euro get you a roll of toilet paper each day? Sometimes! Be aware, you have to ration your white squares like a man lost in the desert rations his water.
Does 216 euro get you clean wash cloths and clean set of coffee cups each day? No. See how to ration items above. Or bring laundry and dish liquid to clean you items in the sink.
Was the room loud? Yeah, a little expected knowing it's on a busy street. However, nobody mentioned the freaking casino blaring stupid arcade noises until around 1am.
Then, after the casino closes, the sounds of glasses and cans being crushed will jolt you awake.
The noise wouldnt be an issue if you could shut the windows and use the a/c. ....wait, what does 216 euro give you? Well, its not a/c.
So you get a choice. Boil your nards off with the window closed. Or try to sleep in quiet and deal with the hammered dude yanking the casino machine all night.
We loved Dublin. Loved the day tours. Hated the hotel.
And being fair, we had some nice people at the desk.
Thinking about staying here? I...
