The hotel is right across from the landmark Piazza San Silvestro making it easy to find. The hotel staff, value for the accommodation and helpfulness of the staff made it a great choice. There's a small elevator and the hotel has 3 floors. The room was comfortable. However next time I would ask for a room overlooking the courtyard as my room with the city view was over a busy street with a direct view of the office building across the street. The traffic was very noisy when I opened the window - I like fresh air, so I kept it closed mostly.|Unfortunately I didn't find out to operate the a/c until the night before I was to leave. I wish I'd asked the front desk about how to operate it before my final night as I'd simply presumed that it didn't with. It wasn't obvious how to work it, but just remember this. Look for the button on the top right that looks like a circle with a horizontal line and just push that. That'll turn in on to a pre-set 20 degrees Celsius. |I highly recommend the restaurant Le Grotte which is walking distance from the hotel. It's outstanding and I highly recommend their crema alla zabaione dessert and shrimp ravioli. Special kudos goes to Simon at the front desk who helped me get oriented to the hotel when I arrived. He fixed my safe, got me into my room when I thought I was locked out, ordered me a taxi for the morning I leave and recommended where to go for an appertivo. Simon was great. The breakfast is nice, it's on the 3rd floor, there are croissants mostly filled with Nutella or lemon, a sponge cake, bacon, pancakes, pieces of fresh fruit, juices and coffee. There's more I just can't remember everything that they offer. I think it could easily be a 4 star as the service here surpasses several of the 4 star hotels I've been to. |I do recommend this hotel. Near lots of shopping and a 1 mile walk from...

Cons: When checking out they asked that I leave them “a good review online” which is what inspired me to bother to write this review at all. I will not be returning to this hotel for my next trip to Rome. There was loud construction outside my window that would wake me up in the morning. On my second day the water was shut off without notice. When I returned at the end of the second day the bathroom smelled like sewage and remained that way to varying degrees for the rest of the trip. My room had no shutters to close so the only option was to close the curtain which also blocked the desk from the room. The desk the best place to set out clothes for the next day. Another privacy concern is that my door would frequently unlatch and swing open while I was in the room. I politely brought up a few of these concerns during my stay but no real solutions were proposed. Also, when had I checked in at the start of my stay they saw I mistakenly said there would be two people despite me traveling alone. When I checked in they said that this could not be corrected so I was charged the extra fee for an additional person. Despite this, they only gave me the towels and room supplies (and obviously breakfast) for one person. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just give me the two towels I was paying for so I had an extra. Because rooms were clean and the staff was nice overall I wasn’t going to leave a review. That said, I felt I needed to knowing they are pressuring people to leave good reviews only. They are not looking for honest feedback. Oh, also, if still decide to stay there don’t get their “transfer”. They just call a third party taxi service and charge you an extra 15 euros over the going rate. It’s a bad deal, just get a taxi...
Read moreWe had a four night stay, with 3 rooms, 2 people per room, in July 2025. Our stay was outstanding.
For us the best aspect of the Hotel San Silvestro is the location. Being in walking distance of the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, and the Trevi Fountain (which is now way too crowded and restricted) was all we could have asked for. In addition being close to all the sights, there is a bus stop a block way where we caught a ride to the other sights we wanted to see - Colosseum and Vatican. Beyond easy access to sights, the hotel is walking to so many terrific places to eat. We went to Colline Emiliane, Poldo e Gianna Osteria. There is Supermercato Tigre less than block away, and we always get our drinks and snacks at a local supermarket.
We interacted most with Roberto - checkin, checkout, arranging transport from the hotel the airport. Roberto was friendly, efficient and straightforward. The transport was about the same cost as what I found online, and the driver was efficient (be prepared for a very local, fast ride).
We corresponded about our rooms when we booked our stay and the rooms where just what we asked for, two rooms with a queen bed, and one room with two twins beds, all on the same floor. The rooms are clean and well maintained. Our room was just the right size for two people and had a bathtub. The missing star for the rooms is for no bathtub in one of the rooms. The area around the hotel seems busy, yet the hotel is quiet at night and not loud during the day. And, of course, the price was right - particularly compared to some of the other hotels in...
