We stayed in the Hotel Antiche Figure for 2 nights before boarding our cruise ship in Venice. The place is in a great location especially if you are coming into Venice by train as it is right across the Grand Canal from the train station. If you want to pull your own luggage, it is only 1 bridge and 210 m from the train station to the hotel. If you want to pay a porter to take your luggage, the porterage cost is very low.
I had one person who said that you should stay in a more central location and the train station is a "bad" area of Venice, The second part of that stgatement is absurd. We walked all over the area around our hotel and there were bars, restaurants and people about and we felt perfectly safe. Concerning the location, the hotel is only 240 m from a vaperetto stop and the public transportation system in Venice is easy to use and can quickly get you anywhere in the city..
Now for the hotel. Our room was the typical smallish Italian B&B room. The room was clean and well lit and the bathroom was large. The public areas of the hotel were comfortable and there is a bar if you need a drink in the evening. If the weather is warm, they set up tables outside which overlook the Grand Canal.
The breakfast at the Hotel Antiche Figure was probably the best of any of the places we stayed at in Italy. There are many choices and the morning waitstaff was very friendly.
The most important part of any hotel is the attitude of the staff. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and welcoming and gave us lots of useful information about Venice. They were happy to answer our many questions about the hotel.
One last thing. Many of the smaller hotels in Italy in older buildings may require going up steps to get to the hotel and some do not have elevators. The Hotel Antiche Figure's entrance is at street level and the place does have an elevator.
We obviously like the place. I recommend it highly for anyone who is visiting Venice even if you are not coming in by train but...
Read moreSo convenient, safe, clean, lovely. Centrally located on the Grand Canal, directly across from the train station. The staff were incredible. They arranged for a porter to meet me at the station and when he and I walked through the hotel door, the manager greeted me by name. He and his staff continued to do so throughout my stay. Exceptional service. They offer a free boat ride to Murano and when I got lost there and needed help finding my way back by vaporetto, I contacted the hotel and they were happy to help. There’s a sweet little bar off the lobby and a small patio adjacent. You can enjoy apertivo overlooking the Grand Canal. The complimentary breakfast was excellent-bountiful and fresh; plenty of hot and cold options, lots of fruit and pastries, American coffee, milk and juices. The bathroom was super clean, bed was soft, the linens top notch. I had the smallest standard guest room and it was the perfect size for a solo traveler, not too small at all. And when a rookie mistake left me scrambling for an affordable way to the airport, the night before I came home, the desk manager worked a Christmas miracle, in October! He found a porter who would take USD, who met me at the hotel at 4:30 a.m., guided my luggage and me through a maze around flooded corridors and delivered us safely to the bus terminal with plenty of time to spare. And because I was up and out before dawn, and before breakfast, the manager arranged a small plate and coffee to be sure I left happy. Best hotel service I’ve ever experienced. It’s expensive but worth it. I chose it for the location, I’ll go back because of the service. Perfection. And did I mention they had AC in October?...
Read moreWe stayed here for 2 nights in early June. Upon arrival the reception staff were so friendly and welcoming. They provided us with a wealth of information about the city and the must see places of interest. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they were so keen to please to ensure we enjoyed our visit.
We booked a superior double but were upgraded to the residential suite. The room and whole hotel was spotlessly clean and incredibly beautiful. The complimentary toiletries were of very good quality and they even provided mosquito repellent wipes in the room. The only minor negative was that there was a fair amount of noise during the night from outside. We were on the ground floor and I believe the adjoining building was storage units for the street sellers. I don't think this would be an issue if you weren't on the ground floor and it really is the only negative of our entire stay at this wonderful hotel. If we had requested to, I am certain they would have arranged a room change for us but for 2 nights it wasn't a huge issue to us.
Breakfast was a beautiful spread of luxurious pastries, fruit and other goodies. They also catered well for gluten free requirements (on request).
The hotel location was perfect. Located directly overlooking the grand canal and directly opposite one of the water bus stops for easy transport around the city. They also provide a free private water taxi return to the murrano glass factory.
Overall I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. They went over and above to please providing 5* service all round...
