Reluctant to post anything about the Corte Della Pigne, as this is so good that you want to keep it to yourself, in case you can't get in when you return to the city! |Had a few days in Verona with friends and struggle to imagine that we could have found anything better or more welcoming. Immaculate B&B not far from duomo and centre, but also delightfully quiet (not a mean feat in Italy!). An enjoyable 10 mins walk to and from the Arena di Verona. Lots of recommendations of places to eat, visit and enjoy whilst in Verona from Elisabetta the owner. She was charming, with excellent English, but also happy to help anyone wishing to improve their Italian! Rooms spacious and beds comfortable, with aircon which was essential as we were there in the middle of a heatwave. Breakfast was also extremely good, with a variety of items catering to both sweet and savoury tastes. Some of these demonstrated the local baker's skills such as the small puffed cheese pasties, sweet custard tarts and the little olive breads (the latter were worth worth going back to Verona for...as is...
Read moreThe reviews were good- we never thought to check the date. Whilst the rooms were nice to look at, ours was very dark- too dark inside. Two of the lamps did not work. The windows had bars and there was little natural daylight- despite the tasteful interior it felt claustrophobic and prison like… it really was not what we had expected nor hoped for sadly. ||||The communal area was small and amenities limited. The manager was clearly very busy and turned up late. We expressed our concerns within the hour but were told we would still need to pay - which was understandable to a point- but we do feel the property was tired and not as per reviews. We will follow this up with the lonely planet guide. ||On a positive we ended up finding the perfect place to stay near the Roman arena - there was no comparison! It was even cheaper and the staff couldn’t do enough for you…||This is only the second time in 30 years that we have written...
Read moreAll the good reviews we'd read about Corte delle Pigne were confirmed on our arrival. We received a warm welcome from charming Elisabetta, and she was always available to give us advice and answer our many questions. Our room was spacious and comfortable with the extra luxury of a bathroom with two basins and an enormous jacuzzi. Elisabetta is a wonderful cook and our breakfasts were generous and varied - juice, fresh fruit, cheese and cakes, crepes and always with an option of eggs. The scrambled eggs were made with ricotta and parmesan and were delicious. We walked everywhere to see all the sights and we also made the cafe/restaurant around the corner - Caffe Monte Baldo - our local - going there three times in four days. We also visited Elisabetta's daughter's excellent restaurant, Antica Trattoria dall'Amelia on our first night. (See separate review). We strongly recommend this B & B to...
