My wife and I ate lunch at the restaurant after visiting the Duomo/Cathedral. The restaurant opened at 12 and we arrived shortly before 1pm and managed to get a table without a reservation. Within 5mins of arriving, people were told that they would have to wait. So, a popular choice and probably best to reserve ahead of time, since there is limited seating. We were travelling with our 23kg dog, who was welcomed to the restaurant, which is always important for us.
The staff were very friendly and translated the menu to us and explained every dish. My wife and I shared a starter, which was a slow cooked egg on veggies and then I opted for the horse stew on polenta and my wife had their tagliolini with zuchinni and bacon. The dishes were absolutely amazing and I paired my horse/polenta with a glass of Amarone. For dessert, we had their "chocolate salami" and tiramasu, which we paired with the Recioto sweet wine. So if they make a mistake and charge you too much it would be a hassle to get your money back. I have lived for 2 years in Italy and never seen this. Or for what the 3.5 eur cover charge? The half-stale bread that I only ate some of because I was so hungry, the waitress that likes to explain in detail without even noticing that I am trying to say that I know the local specialities, or the tiny toilet you have to stand up in? Avoid, there are so many better...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem, tucked away in the back streets of Verona, and full of locals (always a great sign in a tourist filled city). The staff were so friendly and helpful and made space for us even though they were busy when we arrived. They were terrific hosts all the way through and explained all of the dishes they had that day. The food is very seasonal, with incredibly tasty dishes and stunning wines to match. We loved the Pinot Grigio with our pasta and mozzarella dishes. The desert wines were a total highlight and complimented each of our deserts perfectly, just ask the staff what they would recommend, you won't be disappointed! The value for money was...
