My friends and I recently took a trip to Japan (loved it!!). We really wanted to get our hair cut & colored before we left. I had trouble using websites and calling salons so I had to go in-person to salons to check if they had open spots.

We were visiting salons the day before we were about to leave. A lot of salons weren’t able to squeeze us in last minute, but to our luck, NORA GINZA was!! The receptionist was extremely patient and kind, especially when it came to our inability to speak Japanese. Despite language barriers, we were able to communicate through translation apps & they squeezed all 3 of us in for the following day.

When it came to the day of the appointment, I had Eguchi Mizuho as my hair designer. I showed her pictures of the curtain bangs I wanted and used a bit of google translate for more specific requests. She was super sweet and reassured me she can get the job done. The results were amazing & I’m SO HAPPY I stumbled upon this place & they were able to squeeze me in. Eguchi Mizuho even taught me how to style my hair and curtain bangs, which was super helpful since none of my previous stylists taught me how to. She’s very detail oriented and talented!! I’m so happy with how my haircut turned out. The head spa I received was also 100/10, would do again! The employee did such a great job. It was so comfortable that I almost fell asleep!

The overall experience was very relaxing & friendly. They served yummy snacks & tea plus gave nice head & neck massages! The employees were super sweet. They tried to make conversation throughout the appointment & I did my best to reply but I’m sad I couldn’t keep the convo going since I don’t know Japanese :( HIGHLY RECOMMEND locals & visitors to go to NORA GINZA if they want a haircut, coloring or any kind of hair service! I made a reservation for my mom to get her hair cut and colored since she wasn't happy with how her hair looked. The night before, I went on Google and found this spot that had great reviews and was a 10 minute walk from our hotel. I wanted to get a reservation ASAP and they luckily had space at 10 am the next morning. I quickly booked and the next morning I took my mom there. I did some google translating with her stylist (I'm sorry I didn't get your name!!) but he listened and was very thoughtful in his suggestions when I said he could cut her hair however he saw fit. I left my mom in their hands since it would take almost 2 hours. He and his assistant got to work and by the time I came back 1.5 hours later, her hair was transformed! It was shiny, well styled, framing her face, and healthier than I've seen it in awhile! She was really happy and told me that they took good care of her and she was smiling so much about her hair. I told the stylist how happy she was and he was very happy and said he was happy to see her smile. My mom said they were amazing and really kind. The total was around 12,000 yen and she was genuinely very happy with her hair! I wish we could always go here so she'd always be that happy and confident! Thank you for your great work and service!

Fell below expectation during my experience on 21 Jan 2024 Sunday.

Stylish who cut my hair was able to speak English but was not the usual Japanese hospitality. The service was bare minimum in many ways. Didn’t expect long chats but at least some minimal interactions will be appreciated.

The girl who did the shampooing and blowing was a novice. She was nice but her techniques used in scalp and shoulder massage was really not up to par. It was just light brief presses of the scalp and shoulder, barely considered a massage. Took less than 1-2 minute.

The cut and color was average. I couldn’t really tell now cos of this terrible last step in the whole process. (Read next!) Need to wash it off tomorrow morning to see for myself. It’s still oily and clumpy after a good 8 hours. Sigh. 😨

The final touch by the stylist was bad. Leaving a bad after taste. Too much hair oil was used on my short hair. I walked out looking like a wet dog with clumps of hair sticking together. It was looking good in shape after he had blow dry and ironed my hair. But the hair oil spoilt the entire look. I have pictures to show how bad it looked.
