I went here to satisfy a craving I had for Gyu Katsu Sando. Although I ended up ordering the wrong sandwich, the price and the service is great. I'd recommend it if you like beef sandwiches.
They have an English Menu here and the staff is very nice. It is a small restaurant with only bar style seating. I ordered the full size beef fillet sandwich and it comes with a side salad. The salad is not dressed or seasoned at all and I was confused about if it was supposed to be eaten like that. I didn't see any dressing around either. No matter, I was here for the sandwich. The sandwiches are made fresh right in front of you. You can watch the staff churning out these things one after another. They also get a ton of take out orders so this place is popular. The fillet they are using in this sandwich is very lean, practically no marbling of fat. The Katsu is deep fried to a medium well doneness. Being a lean fillet, there is quite a chew. It is seasoned well though and surrounded by Tonkatsu sauce. The sandwich is also served with some packets off spicy mustard. Putting this on really elevates the sandwich to the next level. Shame it's not applied by default, I'm assuming not everyone will like this mustard as it does have a kick to it.
I would definitely go back to try the other Premium Wagyu (I actually wanted this but ordered the fillet instead T_T) and Prawn Sandwiches. The service and quality of food warrants a return. My only gripe is that...
Read moreThe space is pretty small, with less than 10 counter seats in the shop, and reservation is recommended. I went in for lunch and ordered two different types of wagyu sando - Premium wagyu fillet katsy and beef fillet katsu. The flavour of both was similar and equally as tender. I felt that the beef fillet katsu was more worth it, given the larger portion and price. That said, the cook on the beef, albeit being tender, was a little inconsistent in terms of doneness (refer to cross-section clour of gyu katsu in picture below). Also, the katsu for both sandos felt a little "mushy", almost like you're eating minced meat and not a piece of steak. the tangy sauce that is spread over the milk toast overpowered the gyu katsu (the beef was rather thin for a sando, so it lacked that bold beefy flavour), especially when paired with mustard. I wish the beef would have been more pronounced and juicy.
Overall, it's still serviceable, but it barely reached the...
Read moreThe regular beef katsu sandwich 🥪 is already very very nice. If you go for the premium wagyu there’s more nuance to the taste.
However it won’t be the typical fatty wagyu taste you might be used to due to the type of beef chosen which actually has less fat content than your typical wagyu
This might be a good thing for many westerners who find Japanese Wagyu to be too fat.
This easy to miss multigenerational katsu sandwich shop is just across from Dormy Inn Premiun.
Lunch set is nice as you basically get complimentary salad and drink. I went for the half size premium katsu option (I came before and tried normal beef katsu) which clocks in at 3500 yen.
While the Wagyu is on the more premium side I had similar dish in Dubai where it cost more than double that for perspective. However the normal beef katsu is almost equally delicious for half the price so you always have that as alternative
Important to note that it’s...
