Good location with both the Saturday night market and Sunday morning market located just along the next street of this hotel. Strolling over, I get to start my market tour almost at the beginning of one end too. So back and fro from left to right lane, I get to cover every stall 😃 I appreciate that it's not immediately beside the market as well, where it can get greasy from all the BBQ fumes and noisy as the crowd grew. From where I'm situated, the noise did not bother me at all. Basic and functional amenities provided, spacious to walk around and water pressure in the shower was good. No room service needed as there are lots of dining options around this hotel with the many streets to explore, I was never hungry. Within walking distance to the few big malls nearby. Their fisherman's wharf and the two markets on its side are also reachable on foot in the evening for a lovely walk as I followed Google map and the direction of the setting sun. A daytime walk would be challenging given the scorching temperatures in the day so probably best to get a Grab ride in those times. I will probably choose to stay here again on my next visit.

Great Location : The hotel is just walking distance to Suria Sabah - one of the shopping malls in KK. There are also convenience stores and Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel. Modern Stay : The hotel isn’t that great looking on the outside but the rooms seem to be newly renovated. It’s very modern and slick and the beds and pillows are really comfortable. The only thing that didn’t go so well during this visit is that I wasn’t allowed to check in early even though it’s been stated on my booking that VIP customers are entitled to an early check in (as early as 2 hours early). I raised this to the receptionist but they still refused to check me in at an earlier time. Other than that, I really love this hotel and would recommend this to anyone planning to visit KK soon.

Upon checking in, hotel was kind enough to grant the request (requested during booking time) for higher floor rooms with good view. Great location - near Gaya Street, Jesselton Ferry Point, Suria & Wisma Merdeka Malls, restaurants, cafes, Handicraft Market, etc. Room with good bed, 4 pillows (2 hard pillows & 2 soft pillows). Slight complaints - 1. rooms adjacent to main road can be quite noisy at night due to zooming passing vehicles; 2. sink that is slight blocked; 3. No wifi; 4. Shower gel should be changed to shower liquid (proned to get stucked in the given small plastic bottle container)

Capital Hotel Kota Kinabalu consistently delivers a satisfying experience for business travelers, earning its reputation as a reliable choice for accommodation in the city. Having stayed here multiple times for business trips, I have found the hotel to be a perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and excellent service, making it my preferred choice whenever I am in Kota Kinabalu. One of the standout features of Capital Hotel is its prime location. Situated in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, the hotel provides easy access to key business districts, shopping centers, and dining options. This strategic location is a huge advantage for business travelers like myself who need to navigate the city efficiently. Being close to major attractions and the waterfront also means that after a long day of meetings, there are plenty of opportunities to unwind and explore the local culture and cuisine. The accommodations at Capital Hotel are another reason why I keep coming back. The rooms are well-appointed, spacious, and designed with a focus on comfort and functionality. The beds are plush, ensuring a good night's sleep, which is crucial during business trips. Additionally, the rooms come equipped with modern amenities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, a work desk, and a minibar, catering to the needs of business travelers who may need to work from the hotel. The staff at Capital Hotel deserve special mention for their exceptional service. From the moment you check in, you are greeted with warmth and professionalism. The staff members are always ready to assist with any requests or inquiries, making sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Their attention to detail and willingness to go the extra mile is something I truly appreciate and is a testament to the hotel's commitment to customer satisfaction.Capital Hotel also offers excellent dining options. The in-house restaurant serves a variety of local and international dishes, which are both delicious and reasonably priced. For those who prefer to dine out, the hotel's location makes it easy to explore a wide range of eateries in the vicinity, offering everything from local street food to upscale dining experiences. In terms of facilities, the hotel provides several amenities that cater to business travelers. There is a well-equipped fitness center for those who like to maintain their workout routine while traveling. Meeting rooms and conference facilities are also available, making it convenient to host business meetings or small events without having to leave the hotel premises.Overall, Capital Hotel Kota Kinabalu has consistently met my expectations with its excellent service, comfortable accommodations, and convenient location. It’s a place where I can focus on my work while also enjoying some leisure time in a vibrant city. For anyone looking for a dependable hotel in Kota Kinabalu, whether for business or leisure, Capital Hotel is a choice that never...

Avoid! Please stay away from this hotel. If you want to ruin your trip, feel free to book here!

During this one-week trip to Malaysia, we visited different cities and stayed at various hotels. This is the only hotel that almost ruined our entire trip and our good mood.

Problems:

Extremely Poor Hygiene and Facilities: First, although we knew a three-star hotel might be just average, we specifically booked a high-floor room. However, there were no disposable toothbrushes in the room (we called the front desk, but they didn’t deliver them even after an entire afternoon). Second, there were small insects in the room. Both of us woke up with many red spots on our bodies, which were very itchy. Finally, the pillows in the room were extremely hard and high, so both of us had stiff necks the next day and needed to get massages.

Poor Sound Insulation: After 11 PM, we couldn't sleep even with noise-canceling headphones because the sound of motorcycles outside was so loud it felt like they were riding right next to our ears.

The Most Fatal Issue - Extremely Poor Service Attitude: This hotel seemingly exists to make money from Chinese people (I didn’t see any non-Chinese guests during my stay), but the front desk staff were extremely unfriendly and inefficient. When checking in, we were told we had to pay a 100RM deposit. We asked if we could pay by credit card (because the confirmation email before check-in clearly stated that payment could be made by cash or credit card), but the front desk staff said no and required us to withdraw money from an ATM. We were already very tired at that time, so I asked if we could get the room card first and go upstairs to rest while my husband went to find an ATM. The two front desk staff gave us a hostile look and said no, with no room for negotiation at all. 😲

Summary: If you don’t want to have sleepless nights, get bitten by insects, or be annoyed by brainless staff, please check out...

So many good reviews but my experience here was a complete let down, mainly due to my expectations on the service level we should we receiving for the price we paid.

  1. We arrived around 11pm to a cold and unfriendly receptionist. Could've replaced him with a robot or a self-service kiosk and it still would have been a warmer experience.
  2. We requested a double room during booking but was given a twin (and we only found out when we opened the door to our room). It is alright to not have the room requested, we just wished they had the courtesy to inform us when checking in.
  3. The hotel smells weird and we later found an ashtray in our room's bathroom. Not sure if they sent us to a floor where smoking was permitted (if so, they should've asked us first) or the whole hotel permits smoking (this is worse!), so do take note if you are as uncomfortable with smoke smells as we are.

Other compliments in the reviews below which we've experienced the contrary- the Wifi was spotty at best, late check-out was a less than one hour extension, and there is a view... of the road below from our room.

The only good points are that the hotel is clean, good warm shower, and located in the city center. Still, for anything more than MYR 150, I would...
