Wisma Merdeka — Local services in Borneo

Wisma Merdeka is the 2nd oldest mall opened in Kota Kinabalu in 1985. It has 2 phases. Phase 1 was opened in 1985. Phase 2 opened in 1991. From the ground floor to the 2nd floor are the shopping area. Parking spaces for phase 1 & 2 starts from 3rd floor all the way to 6th floor. Then from 7th floor up to the 13th floor are the office spaces. The shopping area offers variety of retails outlets. There are eateries, pharmacy, optical shops, money changer shops, shops selling clothes, massage shops, beauty saloons, mobile phone shops, jewelry shops, etc. The public toilets are regularly cleaned, not smelly. Parking space are ample but not on lunch hours or weekends, charged by the hours and expensive. Overall, this is a good shopping place...

I felt rather sad walking inside here today, many shops are looking gloom, saw quite a number of empty premises. Very quiet and slow day indeed.

This medium size mall once, is my favorite place to go for shopping. It's located right in the heart of Kota Kinabalu, one of the earliest shopping mall together with Centre Point and Karamunsing Complex.

Nothing beats a good seaview such as this mall given us. I really hope, the management of this mall can do something to revive back her glorious days. 🙏

Hyatt Kinabalu is just besides this mall. Walking distance to Suria Sabah, Sekama and Gaya Street.

I visited Wisma Merdeka on 23 November 2020 - went to 6th flooor to find some Malay food, or nasi campur.

If you are looking for cheap nasi campur with low price tag compared to restaurants at 2nd floor of Wisma Merdeka, I suggest you go up to 6th floor at Phase 2 of Wisma Merdeka.

Restaurants at Wisma Merdeka 2nd floor is good except that they are pricey, I mean of you bought a plate of right with two pieces of ayam masak kicap and one type of vegetable, they will charge you for 8 MYR to MYR 10.

If you pick same type of lunch menu at 6th floor food court they will charge your for about MYR 4 to MYR 6, which for me is cheaper than dining in restaurants...
