Matata Hotel — Hotel in Borneo

1/11/24 - DO NOT EAT AT THIS HOTEL! I was there for lunch today & ordered the so called Lobster Thermador Rp 180,000, didn’t expect anything but a small lobster. What I was served was the smallest half lobster I have ever seen (wouldn’t even be legal catch in most countries), there was barely a spoon full of actual lobster on the plate, a bit of lettuce with 3x half cherry tomatoes & half a plate of French fries…absolutely dreadful! Not content with punishing myself, I ordered the seafood Tom Yam soup (should be Tom Yum soup). My soup arrived some 15 minutes later & it was mostly poor quality fish bits, a couple of prawns, tomato’s & mushroom quarters. The soup itself was lacking in taste, needed more lemongrass, chilli & for gods sake some coriander! Had a couple of mouthfuls of this & decided I’d had enough! I will NEVER eat at this hotel again & strongly advise all future foodies to give it...

Our stay would have been much more comfortable if there were no red ants in the room. What's disappointing was the reception claimed that we brought the ants with us simply because we had brought fruits when in fact the ants were discovered upon us checking in as I saw a few on my bed when I placed my bag on it. They refused to allow us to change room because of the high occupancy. The hotel should have been more diligent in their housekeeping instead of accusing us and then supplying us with a can of spray to remedy the situation which the reception thought could fix the problem but ending up stinking the entire room for the whole evening. That created another problem since the windows couldn't be opened so we had to bear with the aerosol stench...

Clean, organised and new hotel. The rooms were beautiful and perfect for a couple. The bathroom was and fresh and the view from the room was great. Loved the staff although sometimes did not make up our room when we put the sign on the door, but our room was hidden in the corner so they may have not noticed.

The biggest problem with this accomodation was the very loud road noise outside (which they can’t control and provided ear plugs for). This wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t for extremely loud modified cars and bikes roaring from 8pm to 3am. This happened 6 out of 7 nights during our stay and made it very difficult to sleep.
