I had a decent weekend stay here and would stay again. Before arriving I had good email conversations with the front desk and they arranged a transfer from the airport via taxi. Although not even four-miles the journey takes around 45-minutes due to the traffic. The hotel is located down a couple of tiny side streets which is a maze at first!
Upon arrival the door staff were instantly at hand and took care of bags. The reception staff were extremely welcoming and it was nice for them to proactively greet me by name without even asking (I assume the driver’s phone call on route had prompted them!). The check in process was one of the fastest I’ve ever had, with the key card already prepared and only a single signature needed, without any forms to complete. A refreshing welcome drink was offered and a member of staff showed me to the room.
My Executive Double room was on the seventh floor and was spacious with large bed and living area, complete with sofa and separate arm chair. The large windows had a decent view over the city and a smaller side window gave a second perspective, as a corner room. There were electric sockets at both sides of the bed as well as a USB charging point. The TV was a good size for the room with BBC World News as the UK channel option (although there were a few English language channels) and the wifi throughout the hotel was fast enough and stable. Two large bottles of complimentary water were provided but it was disappointing that the mini bar was left empty; standard hot drink facilities were present with a kettle. The wardrobe was large and contained a digital safe and ironing facilities.
The bathroom was also a good size and although there was no bath there was a very spacious walk-in shower. Toiletries were provided in small bottles and there was a good number of towels, each of which was nice of decent quality. Everywhere was clean and there was enough storage space.
Although the room was very comfortable my biggest issue was with the noise levels. Planes, traffic and construction noise continued throughout the day and night so if you’re a light sleeper this could prove troublesome. There were also frequent disruptions to the power during my stay - not a problem really but each time the power came and went there was a loud clicking noise in the room, enough to wake me each time. However housekeeping were good at not disturbing when the privacy light was illuminated.
Breakfast is a buffet on the ground floor. The hotel was quiet during my stay so there was no trouble getting a table, with options indoors and outdoors on the terrace. There’s a decent range of food options, with omelettes cooked to order outside. Lots of pastries, fruit, western and local hot dishes, as well as fruit juices, plus everything is kept fresh. Hot drinks could be ordered from the staff but there was no proactive offers made by them which was a shame. It was a nice relaxing start to each day though.
On the eighth floor is the bar and infinity pool. The pool, although small, is unique in the city and has good views. There’s a good number of sun loungers surrounding the area, as well as some normal seating across the rest of the decking. This makes it a great spot to relax with a drink, particularly given the views towards the mountains which are great at sunset. There’s no other tall buildings nearby so it’s a great place to admire the bustling city below. The bar area is nice, with friendly staff and a good range of drinks. The full food menu from the ground floor restaurant is available in the bar, with table service also provided outside.
Overall I’m really glad I chose this hotel. The location is brilliant being just a few steps away from the market streets and all the staff are brilliant. I am a fan of the modern interior and everywhere was well maintained and clean. The rooftop facilities are a particular delight though and can make it a superb relaxing retreat as well as a good base...
Read moreI stayed in Jul 2018 for 30 days and I felt myself at home. I am very grateful to hotel employees as well as the hotel manager.
Water: it is a sensitive matter in Nepal. Hygiene is an issue all over the country due to monsoon rain and some other factors. The water in the hotel was clean, without any colour. I am told the hotel has a separate cleansing system. You can use it with no concern
Room: I stayed at 508 and room has balcony with nice Himalayan view. The bad is king size, only pillows are too soft for me. Size is big enough.
Housekeeping: very nice cleaning and speed. They offer towels twice.
Service: all employees are very friendly and you never hear “no” for your requests. I will never forget their smiling faces.
Location: just in the middle of Thamel area but still silent and peaceful. You can walk and shop around.
Pool: I never tried because we had always better activities to do. But the infinity view at top just against the mountains was magnificent. I am sure it is delightful.
Gym: my friends who tested was quite happy. I am lazy enough not to do. I preferred tracking by Himalayan’s!
Meals: Especially the garden at ground is nice. I liked whatever tested during 1 month. Of course I also explored the restaurants at neighbourhood but the hotel has many selections. Terrace bar is just not that good. You can order at top for snack and “momo” Pasta could be too boiled, ask them aldante before order. Breakfast is quite enough with many selections. If you are vegetable and fruit person like me, you will be definitely be happy! You can order fresh juice and coffee separately or custom-designed service too.
Laundry: too expensive. After 3 trial, I preferred other options around the hotel. Hotel is charging per item including sox! :( that is the only part I will criticise.
Air condition: was perfect my room 508
Electricity: many cut downs but hotel has generator. During the night, the switch could be little noisy.
Conference room: very nice and well acoustic...
Security: they have external outsourcing company clerks at the hotel for 24 hours and they are very...
Read moreRecently stayed at Mulberry with a large group of 25 Americans, French, Scottish, and Irish artists on a retreat and were greeted warmly by HM. Upon arrival we were served juices, a warm smile, and a respite from hurried street life of the city. The rooms were spacious, internet worked well, the food in Kimbu was delicious with a vast menu (stick to the Nepalese/Indian cuisines IMO) and I didn't make it to the spa but heard great things from our group. ||What I will touch on though is the immense attention to hospitality, kindness, and warmth exuded by the staff to our group where we must have been demanding. The front desk was always available to help accommodate all our needs, they let us take over the function room for daily yoga in the mornings for instance and allowed us to use it for a going away party/art show where Amir and staff helped serve cake. Speaking of Amir, what a fantastic GM. One of the first days I was there we were chatting in the lobby and I casually mentioned that I was recommended to try one of their national dishes Chicken Thupka soup. Without hesitation he said he would make sure they would make it and serve it for our breakfast buffet (Which was plentiful, varied, and delicious). Sure enough, the next morning there it was! The restaurant staff was nothing short of incredible. Always catering to our Western needs of various coffee order from latte's, to Americano's, cappuccino's, etc. where they were made expertly every morning. They even remembered our orders and room numbers, never hesitated to smile and greet us, and wished we were met with such genuine congeniality here in The States. I personally used the laundry service twice (we were there for awhile) and it was prompt, professional, and extremely affordable. I can't stop saying enough good things about this hotel, it's staff, our experience and Amir who helped steer the ship. ||This is an annual trip every January and I know we are locked and loaded on where we are going to book next January. Thank you...
