Where you stay often ends up defining how you remember a holiday – unforgettable, passable or total disaster. The Kumari Boutique hotel played a significant role in ensuring that my recent trip to Kathmandu turned out to be of the memorable kind. This is one of those rare instances where I found the hotel not only living up to the rave reviews online, but actually exceeding them in many ways.
Here’s how I would sum up my overall experience with the Kumari Boutique hotel:
Location: As the name suggests, this is a small, boutique hotel located in a quiet, safe neighbourhood of Thamel, the heart of Kathmandu city. It benefits from being tucked away in a cul-de-sac at the end of a narrow bylane which insulates against the noise and bustle of Thamel market. However, the property has easy access to a number of important landmarks in the Nepali capital. I was within 5–15-minute walking distance from Thamel market, the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Narayanhati Palace and a number of well-known restaurants and cafes. Room & facilities: I found the Deluxe Double Room I had booked slightly smaller than expected, though cozy enough. I had requested a room at the back of the property, which I believe are best if you are looking for some peace and quiet. The bed and pillows were comfortable and I slept well each night I was there. The room came equipped with facilities at par with most four/five star properties, including heating, tea/Coffee maker, free drinking water, an amenities kit, hairdryer, slippers, television with a huge selection of satellite channels and intelligently placed charging points. My room was serviced on a daily basis and the cleanliness standards high throughout the property. I did not face any issues with the hotel wi-fi. Food: While I did not have the opportunity to dine at the hotel, the buffet breakfast included in the room tariff was quite adequate. The menu changed daily and there was a selection of cold and hot items. I can also vouch for the masala tea served at the hotel, that was really invigorating at the end of a tiring day. The staff: I saved the best for the last. While there’s a lot going for the Kumari Boutique hotel, I believe the staff is the property’s greatest asset. I would like to especially commend the owner Pramod Paudel who leads by example. While fake, plastic smiles are fairly common in the travel industry, genuine warmth and hospitality are rare. This is what I found while dealing with Mr Pramod. From promptly responding to my queries during the booking process, to arranging airport pickup and providing helpful tips, he is the best ambassador Kumari Boutique hotel could have. And I believe it is this personal involvement and commitment that rubs off on other members of the staff. Even though I was perfectly happy with the breakfast menu already laid out, the staff still offered to make me any dish of my choice. If that’s not going above and beyond, then I don’t know what is.
Suggestions: I certainly don’t want to imply that Kumari Boutique hotel is perfect and there is no scope for improvement. I am sure the property will strive to better itself over time. Some areas that could use immediate attention are: 1.Amenities: For instance, would have preferred liquid soaps to bars and a tissue box in the room. The tv size could do with an upgrade. There was no directory in the room and calling up the reception was thus a hit and miss affair. 2.Food: The quality of the breakfast buffet was inconsistent. While cooked items like paranthas and the grilled fish tasted fine, I did not find the muffin and the cheese particularly great. The variety of fruits were pretty limited too. Since pancakes were a daily staple, they could have been accompanied by a wider choice of toppings like whipped cream, fresh berries, Bananas and Chocolate Chips, Nutella and so on. 3.Services: The hotel could consider providing additional services like money exchange and transport in-house.
Overall: The Kumari Boutique hotel delivers great value for money. Would highly recommend for stay...
Read moreMy first time to Kathmandu and am so glad I chose to at the Kumari Boutique Hotel instead of the meeting venue. I checked in last Tuesday and checkout tomorrow morning; I am already a bit sad at the prospect of leaving. The hotel staff are so friendly. The hotel itself is spotlessly clean. My room, 304, is nice and quiet, roomy and the bed very comfortable. The free breakfast is great, the coffee nice and strong. I want to especially mention the manager Pramod, receptionist Monikala and waiter Suriya who made my stay extra special. I highly recommend this lovely hotel.
A bonus - The hotel team arranged for a taxi driver to meet me upon arrival at Tribhuvan Int Airport, Kathmandu and he was great; pointing out important sites on the drive to Thamel. I relied on him a couple more times during my stay, the best being on the day of my departure. I was adamant I had to see Mt Everest before I left so I had laboured over whether to do a helicopter ride to Base camp or a cheaper fly-by on board a twin-prop. By God's grace I chose the latter as on the day it was raining buckets and the choppers were grounded. Anyways, after check out, my driver drove me to Domestic for my early check in for the Mount Everest Sightseeing flight on Buddha Air. I left all my luggage in the taxi and had the most amazing flight over the Himalayas and a bonus extra pass by Sagarmatha (Mt Everest), but that's for another review. When I returned, the driver was waiting at Domestic to take me to Tribhuvan Int Airport for the start of my long trip back to Fiji. I cried as the...
Read moreThe hotel service was almost impeccably superb. I arrived and was departed by the same polite receptionist, Manoj. The bed was cozy, the toilet was nice (equipped with a range of toiletries) and the interior room was just wonderful.Breakfast was decent and simple. The staff were always ready to serve you.The welcoming atmosphere was somewhat delightful.🫠 The manager even helped us with our planning of Kathmandu- Pokhara and provides all the necessary details that we need to know over there. Saves us a lot of time. 👍🏼The location was just right. Easily walking access to nearby food place and market for essential buyings. Just that the tv programs were all news channels, that was a slight bummer but most of the time we were out so it doesn't really matter. And our room view was limited maybe because we were on the lower floor but the home style feels overcame the restriction. There is a saying:"Perfect goodbyes leave nothing unsaid, thereby there's nothing left to come back for."Overall, even with just 18 rooms in this hotel, I didn't regret making it my destination to rest at Kathmandu. It was truly a lovely place and I hope it prospers widely in the future. Lastly, for all the staff in Kumari Boutique Hotel who appreciate our existence that one week stay, thank you a...
