Gran Hotel Maranon — Hotel in Iquitos

A group of us had been up the Maranon for a week working with Indigenous Amazon Ministries, living in pretty primitive conditions. When we got back to Iquitos we were very pleased to find our rooms were waiting for us. The electricity was on 24 hours. We had indoor showers with hot water, and most importantly air conditioning. The bed was wonderful. The room was clean. The towels were clean and absorbent. The next morning the breakfast was very nice. We LOVED the juices. Our flight back to Lima did not leave until that evening and the people at the hotel arranged for a late check out for us so we were able to do a little sight-seeing and come back to the room for one last shower before heading to the airport. The hotel staff were exceptionally nice...

This is my second time at Gran Maranon. I'm not particularly taken with the location but it's clean and one can get a decent night's sleep. ||The pros:|Clean|Spacious rooms|Good breakfast|Good value|Staff mostly friendly|They now bring food in the evening (a great improvement from last stay)||The cons:|Periodic internet - not uncommon in Iquitos|Some of the evening staff were a bit cranky and were reluctant to assist|Not an awful lot around there - it's a little far from things but that can be a good thing if you want a quieter night||I'd probably stay there again. It's a bit better than some other hotels I tried however, I think it would definitely be worth my while to branch out to...

We had made a reservation at the Marañon, but they moved us here as they did not have room in that hotel. There was a driver who came to pick us up at the airport which was great for our first time in Iquitos. Our room on the fourth floor (they have elevators) was giant with a large King-size bed and a large shower. Of course there was also AC. The Wifi -- on every floor worked OK (sometimes it would go out). The breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had (4 types of juices, hard-boiled eggs and eggs to order).
