We got an airport taxi from the airport because the map seemed complicated and we had a bit of luggage. Near Nakwon market, the taxi dropped us to the alley leading to the house. Just straight the alley and turn right we found the facade of the house.|Our first time to stay in a hanok and while it is a small cramped space, it is cool, secure and there's a homey feel to it. |It was a bit of struggle to accommodate our luggage (we will attend a week-ling conference after 3 days)|Truly, when you enter Namhyundang it was like visiting my grandparents. As the photos of the place show, it's a no nonsense courtyard in front of the rooms.|We were ushered in by the owner's daughter and showed us our room. |We got instructions about breakfast time and the side entrance door when we arrive late night. Her aunt would handle the payment but was currently out. So we settled in our room for a bit. |I was summertime so good thing the room had aircon. I picked the place because we wanted to experience a hanok household which meant no TV or ref inside the room. The place is in a quiet neighborhood. We always look forward to resting after a full day out. |It's not my first time sleeping on the floor and I slept comfortably anyway...but I would have loved to have another pillow. My friend and I picked a room with ensuite bathroom tucked behind a small door. |The bath was modern though. It had shampoo, shower cream, soap, & toothpaste. Petite people like my friend and I have no problem with the space. |One rule however is no eating inside the room. |Breakfast (boiled eggs toast jam nutella & butter with coffee/milk/orange juice) is prepared by the owner Mr. Lee or his sister. And while they prepare, we would have friendly chats with him or interesting converstions with other guests which I though was a great way to connect to people.|The thing about staying in a hanok is to have care in not disturbing other houseguests. The walls are thin and so loud conversations are discouraged. |The house really walking distance to Insadong, and 2 subway stations although the train platforms are quite a walk. It is in a central are in Jong-no gu. |Arriving after 9pm, we would use the side door which we used the key given to us. |In the mornings our host would ask us where our adventures brought us (just like when you're home). |Price wise, it was a bit more expensive than our usual guesthouse budget but given the experience I'd say it...
Read moreThis is the first time I have ever tried accomodations outside of a hotel so was initially a bit skeptical when my wife told me where we were staying. This changed immediately when I met the owner, Mr Lee, who personally went out of his way to ensure that we arrived safely at his Hanok. Each interaction and suggestion during our 3-day visit was genuine and helpful...Mr Lee made sure that we were comfortable, relaxed, safe, and had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend visit to Seoul. As many before me can attest, we felt more as invited guests in Mr Lee's beautiful 110-year old traditional home than just customers needing accomodation.||||The important details:||* Room - traditional & simple: futons on the heated foor, impeccably clean, no TV, and minimally furnished. Bathroom was again very clean and comfortable.||* Location - fantastic: walking distance to everything in downtown Seoul - Palaces, shopping, Insadong-gil, restaurants, etc. Easy access to Subway and buses.||* Value - for all the above, I would have easily paid more.||* Service - Best I have ever experienced (I operate 5-star luxury hotels & resorts)||* Food - breakfast was very simple with everything you could need - fruit, bread, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, juice, & coffee. Setting in the outdoor courtyard was a wonderful way to start each day.||* Wifi - complimentary and fast||||The biggest endorsement that I can say is that I would 100% return to Namhyundang Hanok Guesthouse and will absolutely recommend to all my friends and colleagues when visiting Seoul. We...
Read moreWe stayed in Namhyundang Guesthouse from 27-29 December, and I must stay its quite an amazing experience. ||||We were initially quite worried that the Hanok would be spartan and without central heating, it being a traditional guesthouse after all. All our fears were allayed the minute we stepped foot into the rooms, and were immediately warmed by the hospitable welcome from our hosts.||||The guesthouse is well located, near the train station, several food outlets, and also within walking distance to the Bukchon Hanok Village, making walking in the cold more bearable. Ms Lee, the owner, or as we affectionately called "unni" or big sister, was very friendlt and also took the trouble to prepare breakfast for us early in the morning, and accommodated to our various requests. ||||What caught us by surprise, was that Mr Lee, the co-owner of the guesthouse made the arrangements with our airbnb host and Hongdae, and sent over our luggage while we were out sightseeing. we were truly deeply touched, and quite embarrassed. It was a simple yet heartwarming gesture we greatly appreciated and were very thankful for. ||||I will definitely book Namhyundang Guesthouse the next time I visit Seoul, and encourage all visitors to experience the hospitality of Mr and Ms Lee!...
