First of all, the location was quite confusing. The Bolt driver who sent me off in the vicinity pointed out the entrance at the back of the building.
I kept on circling the building just to to find the entrance. I thought there is a clear lable or reception area in the ground floor just like other hotels. I saw the sign Vitium like somewhat in the top floor in the middle of the building.
So, I was slowly checking by "each units" just to find out where is exactly the entrance to Vitium Urban Suites.
Luckily, I found out the small label like an apartment style entrance and the door was not locked.."luckily". And then, the exact location is not on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd floor but 4th and 5th floor.
There is a small lift that can fit 2 to 3 medium adults. Since, I carried a large size luggage then, it can only fit one adult and one big luggage at a time.
Fyi, the reception area for Vitium Suites is actually on the 5th floor.
Just to share with you, I booked the room with breakfast at agoda but I didn't receive any.
The room is so so (frankly not a 3 stars hotel but probably 2 stars), not too good or bad. The bathroom is nothing interesting and small. The only mirror you can access to is via bathroom's mirror. As expected there was no amenities provided except for two budget small tubes hair/body wash.
What I liked about the room, perhaps, there is a small balcony to look at the back of the building. Beware that it was quite "happening" in the evening until midnight with noises of people from the pub in the back of the building.
Plus side, there is a safe lock inside the room, where you can keep your valuable items i.e. passport, cash etc.
Please do not bring your passport with you when going outside. Be ready to get scammed/pickpocketed in Madrid, solo travellers especially are likely the targets.
I'd encountered way too many strangers approaching me for their agendas. But do not worry much, just ignore strangers and leave them...
Read morethe pros: The hostal's (not a hotel, not a hostel) online photos do not do it justice. It is even better looking in person and you really get good value for your money especially because of its PRIME location. The room I stayed in was the right size for a solo traveler. The bathroom is VERY small. It is hard to maneuver in there even to get in the shower. This is not a big deal but something I think travelers should know ahead of time. Again, the best thing about this place besides the price is the location.||The Cons: The front desk staff are very short with you and have snippy attitudes. The hospitality industry is one where it is 100% guaranteed that you will encounter tourists from all walks of life, countries, and backgrounds. So if this is something that bothered them I do not understand why they chose this profession. They seem annoyed even if you say good morning or hello to them in Spanish. You can't seem to win with these folks and I'm not a sensitive person, coming from NYC, but it is universal in the hospitality world that it is bad business to treat your customers like you don't want them there. If this is a deal-breaker for you, then this might not be the right place to stay. ||But for the affordability of the room, I dealt with it.|| Secondly, not too long after my first day, a smell that resembled raw sewage seeped through the hallway and persisted throughout the entirety of my stay. It was only in the hallway and front desk area but not in my room thank goodness.||Overall, I still liked my stay enough to not be turned off by the negative side and I think it would be much improved once you hire more...
Read moreI wished I’d read the reviews before staying in this hotel. I called Vitium Urban Suites after seeing rooms were available on Booking. A man told me there were no vacancies. After hanging up, I went to Vitium’s website, found there were rooms available & booked one on their website. The hotel offers parking, but in reality, they send you to a public parking garage. The door leading into the hotel is a single door with small writing, as opposed to a normal hotel entrance. My Google & Apple Maps were sending me in the wrong direction, so it took longer than I care to admit to find the hotel entrance. Once inside, I mentioned to the receptionist that I had called several times to ask for directions but no one answered, He immediately told me I hadn’t called. When I pulled my phone out to show him, he said he must of been busy. Then he told me the hotel had already changed my credit card, but he needed me to sign additional documents. In all it was 3 pages plus my CC receipt, mostly duplicates of information I had already filled out online. I told him this was the worst hotel check in I’d experienced since starting my trip in Spain several weeks before, which led to an unpleasant exchange of words. Once in my room, I noticed a yellowish drip on the wall at the base of my bed. It was half a meter long and stopped at the top of the baseboard. It was kind of disgusting and looked like it had been there for some time. I wondered why the housekeepers hadn’t spayed a cleaner on it & wiped it up. There were a series of black scuff marks on the other wall from luggage. I won’t...
