We absolutely loved our experience at the Romantica. The location is pretty good, one block away from the main street and close to grocery stores, ticketing office, stores, ski rentals, bars, and restaurants. The hotel itself is so pretty, more like a bed and breakfast rather than a huge hotel. We traveled from Chamonix to Zermatt and we got picked up by Thor from the train station, He checked us in, and we noticed the cutest, sweetest puppy (Miss Kimmy, she allowed us to pet her and we were delighted, I guess she knew we missed our dog) and then Thor gave us the keys to the room, the night key to the main hotel door (don't forget to bring it every time you're planning to stay out late) and the key to a locker to leave the ski equipment overnight (don't worry is safe it's in a small garage and they close it at night). We adore our room, especially the view from our window. In the morning we met Michelle ( the owner) and she offered us breakfast in the little cozy dining room. The breakfast is pretty simple with freshly baked goodies, Michelle might insist you eat before hitting the mountains. On our way out of the dining room we got greeted by Miss Mousey, the nicest calico cat you'll ever meet, don't be afraid to pet her, she loves people. On our way back from the slopes we stayed talking for a while with Thor and Michelle, they have the most amazing stories and suggestions to tell. Overall, we really enjoy the experience, coming from big and small hotels and being away from home, a bed and breakfast in Switzerland with the nicest people that treat you like part of their family is...
Read moreAs with many other buildings in Zermatt the Hotel Romantica is an alpine style building, this alone gives it a certain level of charm. The hotel is situated on the crest of a Hill, up a narrow street. In front of the hotel is a garden with a winding pathway, this all adds to the charm and makes the hotel quite cute, and well, Romantic. ||The hotel is located near the center of Zermatt, it is within an easy walk of the Train Station and Gornergrat railway. Most of the town's restaurants and shops are nearby as well. The hotel is ideal for any area excursions you may go on. ||The staff at Romantica were very nice and helpful, offering great advice on where to go and what to see. Our room was on the top (fourth) floor, while there is a small elevator that will take you to the third floor, we had to walk the final flight of stairs to the fourth floor, which was not an issue but should be kept in mind for those that have mobility issues. The room itself was decent sized, decorated with an alpine motif. The bed, pillows and linens where all comfortable. The room was cleaned each night during out stay. ||The included breakfast was self-serve continental style (with the exception of made-to-order coffee). The quality of the breakfast was fair, better than most continental style breakfast I have found, but not extraordinary. The offering included some eggs, bread, bacon, sausage and fruits.||Overall, the Romantica is a very cute and charming hotel. It is a great choice for visiting Zermatt and experiencing the majestic beauty of the area. A stay here is highly...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights in this lovely property, welcomed by even more charming and helpful hosts, Michelle and Thor. The room was recently upgraded, tastefully decorated, and from the balcony, had excellent mountain views. The property itself is centrally located, still a short 2 mins walk down to the main street, so you are away from the hustle and bustle of the main market, yet at stone’s throw distance from all shops, restaurants etc.
Thor was so very helpful, and takes exceptional pride and enthusiasm to guide you on your queries and provide suggestions and recommendations, which were all so helpful, it was like living with family who provided invaluable local intel, and made our trip all the more memorable. Thor’s recommendations were always so spot on !
I can safely say the property is one of the most photographed hotels in Zermatt, as everytime we were either leaving or entering the property, there were always some tourists clicking pictures in front of the lovely garden, you need to see the pictures of the property to understand what I am saying.
Michelle provided the warm welcome and homely feel. Every tiny details were taken care of, as an example, when we checked in, we realised there was no sugar sachet in the room. When we asked, Thor personally came up to the room to welcome us (we had not met him at check-in) and brought the sugar sachets with him. This speaks volumes of the care both Michelle and Thor take of their guests.
Whenever we visit Zermatt again, I am definitely staying...
