I visited Zermatt for 4 nights and was looking for a nice clean room in the city center or close to the train station. I have found this hotel at a very convenient price. ||||At the check-in I was told that there is no breakfast buffet because of COVID and breakfast will be brought to the table. The owner then took out a piece of paper and started asking me what I would like to eat for the duration of my stay. As I am a very picky eater I chose the safest possible option: egg, croissants, butter, jam, apple, orange juice. Turns out it was the saddest breakfast I have ever had: the croissants were very soft both on the inside and out, like they were old or heated in the oven and then let cool for hours, the orange juice tasted like sand and the apple also tasted funny. The only thing that they got right with the breakfast was the hard boiled egg. But then again, there is not much you can do wrong when you cook an egg for 10 minutes. So for the next 3 mornings I got a smoothie from Coop and that turned out to be a much better choice.||||The room was small, with ancient decorations. At first sight it looked pretty clean, but have discovered some hardened dirt on the shower tub, which was removed the next day. The room had a mountain view, but you could not see the Matterhorn.||The Room also contained a safe (not sure if it was working or not, since I did not use it) and a small fridge in the desk.||||The shower was extra small (only 60cm X60cm), so if you are on the larger side that might not be a good option for you. Also what was troubling, shower and toilet were separately in a small bathroom but the sink where you wash your hands was in the bedroom. You might wanna bring your own toiletries as none are provided. ||||||The bed was extra fluffy and because of this I had the most terrible night of my entire life. I have back problems and need a harder mattress and an orthopedic pillow to sleep well. Both the mattress and the pillow (which can hardly be called a pillow) were extra fluffy and did not offer any kind of support for my back. In the morning I complained about the mattress and got a harder one but when I asked about the pillow the answer was weird: " i need to ask my brother", " I need to ask the maid", " i know we have one somewhere but we don't know where it is and we have to search for it", " if we do not find it until noon, we will bring you one from another hotel". All this stuff sounded weird and I decided to take a trip to Visp to buy myself a pillow, which made me lose half a day of sightseeing. Also I had to take a trip to the pharmacy, because the pain in my back was so big that could not be controlled without medication. ||||The noise level in the room: you can hear every conversation, every move that the people in the rooms next to you and above you are making, which for me was pretty annoying. ||||The hotel has a small elevator, but if you are using a wheelchair it will most likely not fit in the elevator. ||||So long story short:||||Pros:||- close to train station (only 3 minutes on foot)||- plenty of restaurants and shops nearby||- friendly personnel||- cheap||- safe in room||- fridge ||- hair drier||||Cons:||- noisy rooms||- small elevator||- small shower||- uncomfortable mattress and pillow - if you have back problems it will lead to extra expenses||- low quality breakfast||- not as clean as...
Read moreWe stayed here in late May of 2024. It's a great location, just a block off the main street and a short walk from the train station. When we arrived, there was a sign on the door instructing us to check in at the Continental Hotel, a couple of doors down. Due to it being off season (even though in late May, Zermatt is packed with visitors), the front desk at the Alphubel was totally shut down. Not a huge deal, but when you need something from the front desk (couldn't get the phone in the room to work at all) and it's raining out, it's kind of annoying. The rooms are comfortable enough. Everything is pretty dated, looks like it's right out of the 1970s. The bathroom is tiny and the shower looks to be about 3 x 3 feet! None of this was an issue for us. The problem was that the wifi in the room was pretty much nonfunctional, about as fast as dial-up if you are lucky enough to connect at all. Wifi was very important to me on this trip so I went next door to the front desk to talk about it. The lack of wifi seemed to be news to them. I asked if anyone had ever complained about it in the past and they said no, which I find very hard to believe. They said I could always come to the lobby and use the wifi there. Not very practical at 11 pm when you're in your PJs. They need to upgrade their wifi if they are going to advertise as having internet service, especially at...
Read moreThis is the worst hotel l've ever stayed in, and I travel frequently for both work and leisure. Booking.com misrepresented the room, as it was nothing like the description. There was absolutely nothing I liked about it, and here's why:|The bed squeaked even when just sitting on it, waking us up every time one of us moved.|• I barely slept because the mattress was rock hard, and the room was unbearably hot-even in March.|We turned the heating off on the first day of our three-night stay, but it never cooled down.|The en-suite was the smallest l've ever seen, with just a shower and toilet. The sink was awkwardly|placed in the bedroom at the foot of the bed.|• The walls were paper-thin, and the creaky floors made it impossible to ignore other guests'|movements. We could even hear the person next door snoring all night.|• The curtains didn't block out natural light, so the room was bright by 6:30 AM.|• The reception was completely unmanned-you had to go to another hotel up the road for any assistance. When the fire alarm went off one afternoon, a guest had to walk over to notify them, leaving all of us standing outside with no idea what was happening.|A thoroughly...
