1818 Eat & Drink was simply amazing! First of all it was a welcome departure from Swiss food. This is not to say we don't love the Swiss meat/cheese/potato combos, but as I said, it's nice to have other options. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, it's cozy, warm, inviting, but also feels classy and modern.
The food was fantastic. I don't know how to do it justice in writing, but let me try. In general we eat very well. My 18 year old son said that the steak taco appetizer was "The best thing he has ever put in his mouth!", he then claimed the pork belly appetizer was "The second best thing he has ever put in his mouth!". We also had the shrimp aguachile. My wife, daughter and I loved all three. For dinner we shared the Picanha, and Iberia pork. They were delectable as well. I asked for the fave beans to be in a side dish and not on the main plate as none of us have ever enjoyed fava beans...we ate them all! They were perfect and delicious. For dessert we shared the cheese cake which was so unique and interesting with each bite, salty, sweet, tart, spicy and of course delicious.
The service was amazing, each person we interacted with was warm and inviting, attentive, and interested in us.
I can sum this up simply with, we had reservations on Wednesday, before we left we asked if we could come back Friday, and we did. On a 6 night trip to Zermatt, it was worth spending 2 nights at 1818 Eat & Drink. You will not be disappointed with anything on the menu.
Thanks for the wonderful meal and...
Read moreAfter many years of attending this restaurant, a very disappointing meal. Had booked a table many weeks prior to visit. Upon arriving at restaurant my party of 4 was shown to a small table in a corridor next to the toilet. We requested a different table but were told these were reserved for those who had pre-booked. Given we had pre-booked I queried, and we were told that all tables were reserved. Tables remained empty throughout our meal. The meal itself was okay, portion sizes very small and presentation sloppy. Certain items we had ordered never arrived (although to be fair, were not charged to bill either). At end of meal, I was asked whether we wanted to leave a tip. I declined. We were then left to find our own coats and as we passed the staff member which had served us she immediately started singing - a blatant, disrespectful, act to indicate that she did not care about our opinion or providing customer service. A great shame, as in the past we have found this to be a good restaurant. Our server was the Assistant Manager who really should know better. There are many great restaurants in Zermatt including even others in this hotel. Try the Whyperstube where the staff actually care whether or not their customers have had a good evening as opposed to 1818 who appear not to, probably under the assumption that customers come and go and return infrequently. That will be true for us...
Read moreI had an incredible dining experience at 1818 Eat & Drink, which I found exploring the side streets of Zermatt and the music playing drew me in like a siren. The South American cuisine was a true delight, and it's easy to see why the restaurant was awarded 13 Gault Millau Points. The chef's creativity is evident in every bite, and it's clear they are regularly discovering and refining new meals. I recommend speaking to the chef himself to indulge in what inspires him. The menu is a fantastic journey through South America, from the spicy flavors of the Andes to the grilling traditions of Argentina 🇦🇷 , with each authentic taste feeling both refined and sophisticated. The use of a Josper Grill gave the dishes an amazing smoky flavor, and I especially enjoyed the succulent meats and perfectly grilled vegetables. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and flavorful meal as an interlude from the local offers yet the interior design and atmosphere still remains as swanky as...
