Vivanda - ristorante italiano — Restaurant in Zermatt

When we arrived at the restaurant, the reception asked whether we had a reservation and we said no. The staff went up to check with the restaurant and informed us that it would be at least a half hour before a table would be ready (despite us seeing two couples leaving the restaurant at the time), and suggested we enjoy some aperitifs first while waiting at their cocktail bar. Little did we know, shortly after the aperitifs came (which was around 5 minutes after we ordered), the waiter told us that our table was ready. We asked to bring our drinks to the restaurant, but were told we were not allowed to do so, which the staff never told us about beforehand. We had no choice but to finish our drinks quickly, which makes the whole experience less than enjoyable.

We subsequently went into the restaurant for our meal, and realised that there were at least two 2-persons table, and a 6-people table which were empty. This was peculiar since the restaurant was allegedly full. We ordered a salad, grilled fillet and the shrimp risotto, which we specifically told the waiter we wanted the smaller portion. The waiter also repeated our order correctly.

When paying the bill, we realised that we have been overcharged and asked the waiter whether the price of 39 CHF was for the small risotto. He said this was for the regular size and that he was a bit “confused” when he took the order, which was surprising since we heard him repeat our order correctly.

Gluten free , free from , sensa gluten , the staff didn’t understand any of these terminology and it felt as this was a bother to them rolling if the eyes , quick exit , etc etc, they are young I understand,, Lots of gusto but if your intolerant this is really bad. Iam now in pain in the lovely town of zermatt and with all the positive times I have had in the post ,poestli. It’s a shame just for other gluten intolerable people to know, the Gericht plate I got looked like it was concocted in 2 minutes it was literally ham salad with cheese n sauce n there is the culprit. Also asking for gf sg free from bread again rolling of eyes n cheeky laughter from 4 waiters n waitresses. I have not eaten anything apart from free from gf sg bread since being there, which...

The place seems great. A bit overcharged in wood, but is just a matter of personal taste and this doesn't influence the review. Dishes are presented as very nice. But as of our experience, what makes us put 2 stars is: Service is slow and not organized. The arrabbiata pasta had nothing of an arrabbiata, don't take it if you look for a real one. The filet de bœuf has great garniture but the meat itself is stiff and dry, and it's a shame for a 52 chf plate. Pizzas are not cooked enough at all. Sparkling water comes warm from the fridge, no way to have a fresh one. We don't want to be too capricious, but for a high standard restaurant, these seem important details that need to be...
