Location: Phuket Kata Resortel boasts an incredibly strategic location, just a short walk from Kata Beach. It's ideal for easy access to restaurants, money changer, convenience store, and massage centers. Thanks to the food market in front of the resortel, you are able to taste thai cuisine without breaking the wallet. However, it's important to note that the food market can sometimes lead to issues like rat infestations. So depends on your luck. Also, most of the businesses closes by 11pm so its suitable for family with kids or those prefer a good quite sleep.
Building: The entrance is designed in traditional style and inviting, giving you a lovely resort feeling.
Room: The room is cozy, although it would benefit from clear instructions on using the phone and the safe box. A little touch-up on the shower head would make it even better. Some parts of the rooms could use a bit of refurbishment, but the overall room condition is nice. While there are so many mosquitoes, you may feel threatened, you can easily request mosquito repellent from the reception to ensure a comfortable stay. Also, you are required to communicate to them clearly if you don't require housekeeping. The sign outside of the room, most probably for decoration purposes.
Breakfast: The breakfast spread includes a variety of Thai and Western food, and we didn't have much to complain about in terms of food quality. But definitely can improve for the price we pay.
Price: We booked the poolside room via Agoda for MYR 832 per night, including tax. While it feels a bit on the higher side, the convenience and location can be worth it. A welcome drink was indicated part of the room but it was not provided. It would be a nice touch to enhance the experience.
Pool: The pool is okay, but the water quality and pool quality can be improved.
Smoking: Unfortunately, guests can smoke everywhere and anytime, and there isn't proper enforcement to prevent this. This is especially concerning for those with young kids, as passive smoking can be harmful.
Customer Service: The hospitality industry thrives on courteous and friendly service. While we noticed that the receptionist during the check-in seemed a bit busy and unfriendly, overall, the other staffs were helpful.
Proximity to Other Areas: The resortel is a bit far from other famous areas such as Patong, Phuket Old Town, and the piers/Royal...
Read moreI really enjoyed my stay here! The staff and and front desk were always attentive and friendly. Learn a little bit of Thai and it will go a long way with the locals.
At the end of the day, it was always refreshing and nice to come home to a ready made bed with fresh linens and fresh towels waiting for you on hand; housekeeping comes in daily to clean and freshen up your room.
Where Phuket Kata Resort can stand to improve on is the hot water situation. I had to ask the front desk for them to turn up the heat to my shower. Even then, it wasn't enough, but good enough. One final detail that was lacking is the lack of complimentary body lotion. You'll need it since the water is so hard.
Otherwise, there are two showers in the room I stayed in. One private outdoor shower for when you get back from the beach and the in-room shower that will supply you with your hot water.
There is plenty of storage space in your room for extended stays and to get comfortable and there are drying racks outside your room for wet clothes and gear.
Don't expect much from the beds in S.E. Asia (that's anywhere for the matter), but do expect a firm mattress. Also, it is nice that the hotel provides you with an in-room safe, it just would be nice if the safes were properly anchored into the wall.
Otherwise, the location is prime and just a short walk to the beach. Pool is clean, warm, and comfortable with a wet bar.
Tip: Ask the bartender to turn on the jets to the underwater beach chairs so you can lounge in.
In the back there is another pool with rooms that have their own entrances into the pool which is a cool feature. And there is a bungalow that you can rent as well.
Breakfast is served from 06:00 – 10:30 and you can put in a custom order with the chef for an omelet or other options.
There are two computers with internet access available to use as workstations (although only one was working at the time.) Additionally, there is a pool table that you can use.
Overall, I would come back to this resort and stay. The costs are reasonable and the value is great. Plus, Phuket Kata Resort is very close to good restaurants and shopping.
Tip: Try the rolled ice cream from one of the nearby vendors and watch as they hand craft your selection in...

This hotel has an amazing location, right behind Kata Walking Street, a food and souvenir market, and just 150 meters from Kata Beach. It’s central yet quiet, which is a big plus.
The rooms are clean and well-equipped, featuring big, comfy beds, a warm shower, a garden shower, and a small terrace with direct pool access. The only minor inconvenience is the lack of power sockets near the bed. Toiletries are decent, and they provide extra towels for the pool or beach.
The pool is large and beautiful, especially at night with the decorative lights and palm trees. It’s quite shallow (about 1m deep) but great for relaxing. There are water jets and submerged stools where you can sit and enjoy a drink at the pool bar, but unfortunately, the bar was closed even during high season. Sunchairs are always available, and there’s also a library and a pool table for extra entertainment.
The lobby area is nicely decorated, with tables, chairs, and sunbeds both indoors and outdoors. The overall atmosphere is peaceful and tropical, with a resort-like feel, making it a great place to relax in the heart of busy Kata Beach downtown.
Breakfast is served buffet-style indoors at the restaurant from 6:30 to 10:30, which is a convenient time range, but the food and drinks could be better. The waitstaff wasn’t very attentive, and the toilet near the lobby and restaurant wasn’t always clean.
Housekeeping ignored the “Do Not Disturb” sign and knocked repeatedly in the morning. After I asked them to stop, they did—but then they failed to clean the room. The reception staff speaks very little English and isn’t very helpful. For example, they refused to assist when my driver called speaking Thai and needed directions.
While the staff generally lacks warmth and initiative, they do fix technical issues quickly. I had problems with the safe one day and the door lock another, and both were resolved immediately.
I booked through Agoda for €50 per night, which is great value. However, at the reception desk, they were asking for almost double the price. Booking online is highly recommended to get...
