We decided to try the Buffalo in Karon on a friend’s recommendation because she raved about the steak there. I was eventually surprised by our experience because I rarely find good steak cooked well in Asia. When we arrived the place was packed and we were worried that we would not get a table. We were greeted quickly and luckily a table near the front became available. The table was quickly re-set and we were seated and given menus within 5 minutes of arriving.
We ordered the Australian Sirloin Medium Rare with Garlic Sauce and Idaho potatoes as well as the filet minion on a bed of mashed potato. The meat portions were a little bit small but this is not unusual in Asia. I found the sirloin was slightly under cooked but was tender and delicious while the filet minion was perfectly done. The garlic sauce was tasty and did not overpower the flavour of the meat and the Idaho potatoes were just perfect. The mash potato was delicious, light and creamy.
An interesting side note was that our table at the front of the restaurant was literally road-side with a narrow 1m wide footpath and a low balustrade separating us from Patak road. We early learnt that dogs roam freely throughout Phuket and although perhaps not protected by religion, culture or law seem to have free run of the place. Halfway through our meal two separate dogs looked up at us from just the other side of the fence.
Terribly cute with sad forlorn “please feed me” eyes it took all our will not to toss something over to them. Mindful of other patrons and perhaps drawing the ire of the maitre’d we resisted the temptation but noted that the staff were not interested in what the dogs were doing even when they passed through the balustrade. Later after paying the bill I found one of the scamps sleeping on the floor behind my chair!
I read with interest some of the other more negative reviews but fortunately that was not our experience. Despite the presence of the dogs we had to agree with recommendation that brought us to the Buffalo and would happily recommend the Buffalo Steak house in Karon to our other...
Read moreWent for a steak on Saturday evening around 8.30/8.45, so not particularly late for an evening. I have absolutely no complaints about the food, it was excellent. Beautifully cooked rib eye steak for my husband and I had a combination of pork loin and fillet steak. Both cooked great along with some beautiful dauphinoise potatoes and a nice bottle of red wine. The problem began when the staff started to close up around us, it was only 9.35. We were presented with the bill, even though we had not requested it and we were still drinking the wine. We were not even asked if we wanted a desert. The staff then proceeeded to cover all the glasses on the bar and bring in all the outside tables around us. It was clear that they wanted to leave. The kitchen staff departed dragging all the rubbush through the restaurant in front if us. We were made to feel very uncomfortable. It is a shame as the steaks really were excellent and on a 2 week holiday we would probably have gone back, but unfortunately we...
Read moreFood poisoning and bad service!! Staff were slack , lazy and miserable. The only time we saw them smile was when they spotted a 'plus sized' lady walk past the front of the restaurant- to which they promptly laughed and pointed. Our food arrived (unfortunately) the chicken wings tasted horrible and halfway through, upon closer inspection we discovered that the meat was a a very dark greyish brown. Onto the main- I had asked for medium rare, the steak was just flatout raw and cold! The sauce was completely inedible.
A couple of hours later my partner and I were back at the hotel suffering from severe food poisoning which has lasted 3 days!!!
We dined at the restaurant in kata across from the dino park (as i know there are other restaurant locations).
Wish i could rate it 0 stars but it wont allow me. Cannot rate this dining experience low enough!!...
