Great location for those who prefer to be close to the beach, restaurants and bars etc. This hotel is very noisy late into the early hours due to the location being close to lots of bars and clubs with loud music. Personally this didn’t bother me but it may be an issue for others. If you want to be somewhere quiet or away from all the hustle and bustle this hotel is not for you. Staff were very friendly and helpful mostly although quite a few have experienced issues upon arrival with rooms. We experienced issues with beds and room size. We were allocated a very small room with only 2 single beds for 3 people. We were told by reception staff upon arrival to share 2 beds between 3 which clearly wasn’t appropriate given we’d booked a room for 3 people. Hotel staff told me they had received a booking for 2 people so weren’t expecting 3 people which is absolute rubbish. We’d booked a package via a tour operator and I showed the reception staff the online booking which included flights and transfers so it’s impossible to say you were only expecting 2 people not 3. As arrival was in the early hours we just wanted to sleep so the back and forth about the booking wasted a number of hours and eventually we gave in and slept on the 2 beds between 3. Later that day we were brought a fold up bed which was placed between the 2 single beds and all pushed together and this just about fit. We decided to get on with it and enjoy our holiday but it was extremely poor only being given 2 single beds for 3 people on arrival at 2am, having travelled and feeling exhausted. |We only booked breakfast and glad we did as food was basic. Those at the hotel that also booked dinner said it was very repetitive and food not great so we were pleased we didn’t book dinner. Lots of restaurants and snack places nearby to eat at to suit all budgets. We loved Tasty Bites under Hangout Reataurant. We did lots of excursions from this location including Jeep Safari and boat trips. We loved Baba Tekins boat and lunch was superb. We really enjoyed Bella Gusto restaurant and VIP bar/club. If doing the jeep Safari be sure to bring a large plastic bag for belongings and a water shooter as well as water shoes. These are more expensive from vendors at the trip. We found Karbel Beach Hotel small but we preferred it to larger hotels. The rooms and hotel were clean although very dated. Towels were not replaced daily and bedding wasn’t replaced at all during our stay. Cleaners were very friendly but the cleaning of the rooms hit and miss. I cleaned up a spillage from the tiles floor and found it was very dirty but this wasn’t obvious due to the red quarry tiled floor. We did have some issues with the room. Only 2 sockets and one didn’t work so we had to use the only other socket which was difficult to get to behind the bed. Thankfully we’d brought an extension lead with various ports but to put everything plugged into it on the floor under the bed. The socket by the door for the room key and power flashed bright lights constantly which was annoying at night when trying to sleep. Both things reported to the reception desk but nothing done to fix it. We did also see Geckos in the shower but it didn’t bother us too much. Wonky toilet roll holder on the wall. Shower didn’t regulate temperature and would give out boiling hot water during showers causing burning so had to be careful when using it. Room check out is 12pm and there a room by the pool with a shower which is handy and luggage can be left at reception so no need for late check out cost. There’s a charge to use the safe in the room so we didn’t bother. Take hangers as the ones in the room as ones visitors have left behind and there’s not many. Complimentary toiletries consist of small round soap bars and liquid shower gel and shampoo but they weren’t very good so we used our own. We found shampoo needed the entire bottle for one wash just to get a lather. Be mindful of buying any drinks and snacks as they can be expensive. A Calippo ice lolly is just under £4 for one! There’s shops next door and nearby that sell everything cheaper. |The hotel does offer fair exchange rates for money change so...
Read moreFirst visit to this hotel and overall had a great stay. We visited as a family for a one week stay.
Staff are mostly great, you soon work out who is best to approach with queries etc. Particular mention needed for photographer Omer, not only is a fantastic photographer, but is so friendly and engaging, an absolute asset. Also Engin, part of the restaurant staff, was a great host, super helpful and friendly.
Food was great, plentiful and varied. The Turkish night was a particular favourite and I loved the array of salad options. Breakfast I enjoyed the variety of eggs on offer, plenty of healthy or indulgent options for every appetite. Lunch had two options - poolside or restaurant. Restaurant lunch was similar to dinner with a variety of salads and hot options. Poolside lunch had family favourites such as burgers, nuggets, chips and salad - all very tasty. The lady making the fresh flatbreads poolside was a gem too, delicious and had different filling options (cheese, chocolate).
Ice cream served 3.30 each day - different flavours each day and very tasty. Water, juice and hot drinks are self serve and always available at different locations. Soft drinks, beer and local spirits included within package. Cocktails and some other drinks are chargeable.
Air con was great in the room, in fact had to turn it down as got to chilly through the night. Our room for 3 was very small, however had plenty of storage space for clothes and luggage and had a great balcony which was good for drying swim clothes or having a chilled time out. Although small, we didn't spend a great deal of time in the room and it was functional - slept well, good shower and good air con. I did need to ask for an extra pillow that took some negotiation as first ask the chap on reception said no, but then asked someone else and this was accommodated and I slept much better. There was a safe in the room that is an extra charge, we didn't use it and had no issues with any valuables and also didn't really have concerns to that effect either - hotel feels very safe.
The pool was great and the venue offered a number of activities for kids, pizza making, dance, face paints etc. Water aerobics, darts, killer pool and water polo were also great for adults (or kids). We didn't stay on site every evening but did enjoy the Kenyan acrobatics, Turkish folk and live singers (did not enjoy listening to the karoke as much though - yes party pooper alert).
Good location, 5 mins walk to beach (and boat trips), 3 min drive from cable cars and good shopping in the strip next to hotel. Some good restaurant options if looking for a change of scenery too.
A real downside for us was the too relaxed approach with smoking. There was no non smoking areas so had people lighting up all around the pool, lunch areas, dinner areas etc. Really unpleasant as a non smoking family with a child. Seeing people using drinking glasses as ashtrays too is just gross and...
