A True Gem in the Heart of Historic Baltimore – Rachel’s Dowry Bed & Breakfast

Our recent stay at Rachel’s Dowry Bed & Breakfast was nothing short of exceptional. Nestled in a beautifully preserved historic home just blocks from iconic Baltimore landmarks like Camden Yards, the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum, the B&O Railroad Museum, and a host of fantastic restaurants, this charming bed and breakfast offers a truly immersive experience.

From the moment we arrived, Linda—the owner and gracious host—made us feel completely at home. Her warm hospitality, deep knowledge of the area, and thoughtful attention to detail elevated our stay in every way. Linda isn’t just an innkeeper; she’s a caring and charismatic curator of both the home and the neighborhood’s rich history. Whether you’re a baseball fan, a history buff, or simply someone who enjoys exploring vibrant, walkable neighborhoods, this location is ideal.

Each morning began with the enticing aroma of a gourmet breakfast, prepared lovingly by Linda herself. Every dish was delicious, creative, and clearly made with passion. More than just feeding our stomachs, Linda also fed our curiosity—sharing fascinating stories and insights that brought the surrounding historic area to life.

Throughout our stay, we felt not only comfortable and well cared for, but also informed and prepared to make the most of our time in Baltimore. Safety, comfort, and genuine hospitality were clearly Linda’s priorities.

It was truly our pleasure to spend a few days at Rachel’s Dowry Bed & Breakfast. We left with full hearts, happy memories, and a strong desire to return. We highly recommend this special place to anyone seeking a unique and enriching stay in the heart...

A few steps from downtown and yet centuries away. This beautifully refurbished mansion is nestled underneath what may be the oldest Magnolia in the NorthEast. It’s rooms are elegantly decorated and yet invite you to stay a while. The original hardwood floors- just wow! You literally are in the footprints of George and Martha Washington and many of their contemporaries. The rooms are tastefully themed- no gaudy nautical spring or creepy old portraits sternly looking down at you. Period furniture and some done to look like period furniture blend seamlessly for a step back in time. Take the time to pause and reflect on the sweeping staircase as you bustle down to devour the heavenly scented (And May I say oh so hearty and DE-licious) breakfast. Slow down in the evening for even just a moment and enjoy the sipping brandy in the library cozied up with a book on history or any other subject you could think of. Coffee, tea and homemade baked goods are available throughout the stay for snacking and thoughtful details such as plush robes, the exquisitely comfy sheets and wine corks and glasses provide for a feeling of being truly taken care of. A chat with the innkeeper is well worth the time and provides a richness and depth to the whole experience. This was a mommy-needs-me-time trip and hit the spot!!! I will definitely be back and have already told several friends about it. Of note with the current COVID issue, the place was spotless! Rooms cannot be booked back to back, there’s plenty of hand sanitizer around etc. it was like going to visit an old friend and leaving revived and ready to face another shift in...

My wife and I typically stay at the Hilton across the street from the Orioles Camden Yards when in Baltimore. Reason for staying there is for convenience. This visit we wanted to do something different so I still wanted something close to the stadium (I am a Yankee fan) to see a couple Yankee “trouncings”of the Os, but wanted something with charm and feel of Baltimore history. And with that said “Wow” we got all of that and so much more! Rachael’s Dowry an absolute Gem. But makes it so unique is the owner/innkeeper Linda. She is so welcoming you feel right at home the minute you walk into this beautiful historic home. Linda gave us a full tour of her B&B along with some amazing conversations about this home! If you like interesting conversations of the history of places you visit and stay you will love sitting and chatting with Linda. And now more about the rooms you will stay, the bedrooms are amazing, comfortable beds to the point where I typically get up every day at 05:30 no matter if I am working or on vacation, here at Rachael’s Dowry I slept so well that I slept until 07:30 each day. But it gets even better as you wake up and traverse, smelling the amazing aroma of breakfast being prepared, down to the beautifully appointed dining room where you will experience a wonderful breakfast. It is actually a piece of Art! We took pictures of these masterpieces😀 each morning.

I could go on and on but you need to experience this yourself as you will fully appreciate the decision made to visit Baltimore and stay at this beautiful Bed and Breakfast.

I had to drive in from Philadelphia for a convention and found this B&B on Google maps. Linda, the innkeeper, was very kind and helpful before we even arrived. We spoke over the phone before the reservation and she asked if I had any food restrictions. She buys fresh groceries for the breakfast that she will make in the morning. We had a late check-in, after 6pm, so she told me how check-in would work. As soon as we entered the house, it was beautiful and I couldn’t stop smiling. It had the exact feeling I was hoping for (which is why I have uploaded so many photos). After exploring the rest of the house, I went out to eat dinner and came back to take a nice bath in the huge tub (which is what I was looking forward to the most). Not every room has a tub, so make sure you ask if you are looking for one for your stay. In the morning, I awoke to the smell of food and hurriedly got ready to go eat breakfast. The table was set up beautifully and Linda was there to greet us. While we ate the yogurt, she went to get the eggs Benedict ready, which she had kindly asked how many eggs we wanted. My husband got one and I got two. Everything was so delicious. After we ate, we had a very nice chat in the living area with Linda. The entire thing was a great experience and whenever I am in the Baltimore area, I will definitely return to Rachael’s Dowry Bed and Breakfast. I hope this review will convince you to come stay here! I wish the best for this business and Linda. Thank you so much again!!

I booked The Letitia Mae Suite which is the only room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard where I had my coffee before breakfast on a sunny 48° January morning. The haint blue on the balcony porch ceiling and Southern Magnolia tree made my short overnight trip feel more like a vacation. The queen-sized bed was extremely comfortable (not something that I've commented upon in other B&B reviews) and the room had a cute *working* electric logs and flame fireplace, which gives the room great ambiance while feeling safe. The bathroom was quite large and included a claw-foot tub and walk-in shower. I stay in historic homes for the ambiance and you can't beat the old hardwood floors and small touches that Linda made around the room and throughout the inn. She even keeps a collection of books written by authors who have stayed at Rachael's Dowry! The breakfast was delicious and included an old family recipe. It's an easy walk to/from Westminster Hall and Burying Ground where the author Edgar Allan Poe is buried. The location is quiet, has convenient parking, and is located in a great (and safe for solo female travelers) area. I felt comfortable walking at night. I cannot imagine staying elsewhere in Baltimore after staying here. I plan to return.

As a lot of other reviews have commented, Linda, who is both the owner and innkeeper, is lovely and a very affable and friendly host. She also makes a great breakfast. I especially liked her take on eggs benedict. The building is a historic building, especially by American standards and even as a Brit, it is still fairly old and with an interesting history, which Linda will gladly tell you about. My room was very spacious and the bed incredibly comfortable and the room was also nice and clean. I arrived by car, so appreciated having a designated and free parking space. If you are in town for either a Orioles or Ravens game, then it is just around the corner from both of their stadiums. Certainly recommend staying here, if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Baltimore and is a lot more personal compared to staying in a hotel.
