My husband and I recently visited the area and drove past this shop, the windows are full of beautiful stained glass pieces and I knew I had to go in there. I love collecting local art on our trips. Later that afternoon we made our way over. I took a few photos of the pieces that were hanging outside the shop while my husband was looking at another shop next door. The shop owner made his way to the door so I gave him a friendly nod, he scowled at me. I can’t remember if there was a “no photos” sign posted outside of the building, but it was clear that he had a problem with my camera, so I had my husband hang on to it outside while I went in to look around. I was wearing a backpack and had no pockets, so I had my phone in my hand. I took a couple of steps inside the shop and went to the left, in that area there isn’t a clear view of the cashier stand where the shop owner had moved. I heard a shout “no cameras!” and I thought he was talking to the people who had come in after me so I didn’t think it was directed at me. Then I hear “HEY LADY NO CAMERAS!!!!” so I came around the corner and he’s wagging his finger at me. I show him my phone in my hand, not in use, and I tell him I’m not taking photos. He yells again and tells me to put it away. I zipped it up in my backpack. Even after that, I still wanted to look around because everything really was beautiful. I wasn’t sure if it was all locally-made because some pieces didn’t look like the others. Trying to smooth things over, I asked “so is everything here made in Maine?” He replied “NOPE”. Just stood there scowling at the door and never made eye contact. At that point I just walked out. Seriously the rudest person I’ve ever met, there is no way that these positive reviews are referring to the same guy. I respect the choice to not allow photography, but there are better ways to enforce that rule and they don’t involve screaming at potential customers who aren’t even taking photos in the first place. Even though the prices were a little out of my range, I would have probably left with something if my experience had been pleasant. I ended up finding a beautiful mirror in another shop where I was treated like a human being. Skip this place, there are many...
Read moreMy husband and I took our family on a trip to Maine for my birthday. On my actual birthday, my husband thought it'd be a nice idea for him to give me the cash to go into the sun catchers store that we'd driven past a few times so that I could get myself a little birthday gift to remember Maine by. I walked in and was AMAZED at all the beautiful suncatchers hung and displayed all over the place. There's was a square inch that wasn't covered. Excited to know more, I asked the man behind the counter (who I assume is the owner because no employee with his attitude would EVER stay employed) "who makes all of these?" And he sat there, uncrossed his arms, without making any eye contact and just thumbed to his chest, answering my question. I guess he makes them all.. I asked one more question thinking maybe he was just a bit awkward..? "How long did it take you?" To which he replied "whatever!"
I was baffled, mostly because I expressed interest in his artwork and he couldn't even engage in a conversation with me. I walked right out, with $100 in my pocket that I would have gladly handed him had he been a decent human being and not yelled at me on my birthday.
HUGELY disappointed even still. He needs to be shut down, or just hire someone else to do that kind of work. Don't waste your...
Read moreI recently visited Bar Harbor for the first time. It was idyllic, the downtown architecture was beautiful and colorful. I felt like I was walking around Stars Hollow. The shop owners were relaxed and friendly until we entered this shop. This shop is hard to miss, it has wall to wall mirrors covering every square inch. The owner did a great job of decorating and drawing people in. When we walked in we said hello to the man sitting behind the counter. We asked him a few questions about the shop, he replied with clipped one word answers and just stared at us. That's fine not everyone is talkative or bubbly. We continued to walk around and I pulled out my phone to take a photo. All of a sudden he was interested. He barked out "You're gonna need to delete that!" I was startled and said no problem and deleted the photo. I understand some people believe that photos and videos may decrease interest in a place. That's his right, however I never saw any sign saying that was the policy. What I don't understand is, why own a shop like that if you are angry and don't want to deal with people? The experience made me uncomfortable, I would never buy something from a place with deplorable customer service, every time I looked at an item I would remember the bad experience. Enter at...
