I felt immediately welcomed upon my arrival. The scent of the lobby is what welcomed me first, and it was a pleasant welcome! The female art the desk was so warm and friendly. She was a black female, pony tail, and I think I noticed a small gap in her front teeth, maybe about 5'8. Anywho, she was very sweet and efficient getting me checked in and parking added to my stay. My room was very modern with tile floor; however the floor was not freshly mopped upon my arrival. As a clean freak, I know when floors are freshly mopped. My white socks became dirty very quickly walking around the room. The bathroom floors were not cleaned also and the shower was not freshly scrubbed. I was pretty disappointed in that, but that is a main reason I bring shower shoes when I travel. The motion sensor thermostat is cool, but not a good idea especially since the light it emits is VERY bright. Due to my tossing and turning because of the loud noise above me during both nights, I was up a lot and the thermostat light shined bright each time waking my partner. I eventually covered it with a hand towel to dim it a bit. Getting to the main point of my feedback. Upon checking out, I called down to the front desk to ask about check out, and was met by a friendly voice on the line: LaQuinthia Fields. Before hanging up, LaQuinthia genuinely asked about my stay. I was refreshed being given an opportunity to share how I really felt. I explained to her that for the past two nights, I did not get much sleep due to the stomping, heavy walking, and movement of furniture above me BOTH nights. It was so very loud and CONTINUOUS, and I was in disbelief. I was almost embarrassed because I chose the hotel and I wanted to make a good impression on my new partner, lol. Even in the beauty of the facility, our sleeping experience was poor. Even at a less expensive hotel e.g. a two or three star hotel, loud noise is something I have never experienced so profusely. Due to the tossing and turning, I experienced indigestion and heartburn, something I never get, but all the movement around the bed was just so discomforting, to say the least. In addition, and there is nothing I can do about this, but why am I paying for parking for a place I am already staying at? Can that not be built into the room fee? I know it is a part of the industry and a way to make some extra fee money for the hotel, but either lower the parking or build it into the entire stay. There were a lot of cars along the street. Some for the apartments and some for the hotel. But as a police officer, cars parked along the street is inviting to a burglar which then invites criminals into the area and possibly into the garage. I digress. I would like to highlight Laquinthina (LQ) because she listened to me without interruption and actually asked if a solution was found instead of just saying sorry. She stated she is going to make it right, so I do appreciate...
Read moreThis hotel had its good and its bad. I would give it a 3.5, but we are going to round up to 4 because the price was decent.
The bad: This hotel tries its hardest to be chic and trendy. That's OK, as they pull it off, and it works for them. However, it makes for some issues. First of all, the rooms. The rooms are so concerned with being trendy that they miss some of the comforts of relaxing in a hotel: -The bathroom door is sliding glass. Might as well have a curtain for the bathroom. -The shower was great, except for it leaked water onto the floor. So much so that it leaked past the glass door and nearly into the hotel hallway. -Neither of my keycards worked the 2nd day. I think the battery on the door system gave out? -The remote for the TV only allows you to push one button every 5 seconds. Example: when spelling out my email for my Netflix account, it took about 5 minutes because you have to push a button, then wait 5 seconds for the remote to stop blinking before it will allow any more signals to work. VERY FRUSTRATING -The coffee machine was not located anywhere near a plug. I moved it, no big deal. But why??? -The door to my room had a hinge or something that made a loud noise every time you opened it. My neighbors probably hated us because when it popped (every time we opened it), you could hear it very loudly! -The thermostat was like a glowing UFO in the night. I had to cover it with a hat. In doing so, it seems to have shut it off. I woke to 74 degrees in my room in the morning. Not bad, but I would have preferred a bit cooler. -There was no sense of urgency to serve the customers. Never did I see more than one front desk attendant. If someone was ahead of you, expect to wait 5 minutes per person. When I got to the attendant, they were on the phone when I registered. I was unsure of many things throughout my stay because I never really spoke with the person at check-in. I just assumed to never touch the fridge. -That goes for the bar, too. The only barkeep left the bar for about 15 minutes before I arrived. Everyone there was held hostage waiting for their tab or another drink. To their credit, all barkeeps were very nice.
The good: -This place was a decent price if you do not use any of their extra services or breakfast. -The free parking on the street was actually convenient. -The people there were nice. All of them. -The place was immaculate. Very nice, very trendy. Would be a great meeting place. -The pool was nice. -The location is within a small walk to the Galleria. Very convenient.
I don't want to hammer this place too bad because the price was excellent. Also, my problems were not serious. However, it could use some tweaking. I believe 4 stars is a more than...
Read moreAfter 3 visits to this hotel, I really want to like it. The building itself is quite nice and I enjoy the modern rooms. If you think that the typical tired hotel decor makes you feel dirty, then this is the place for you. Bonus: no carpet in the rooms, so if you're put off by carpet in hotels, this place is great. The shower and bathrooms are quite spacious and have a nice design as well. A small but nice touch is the water dispenser on each floor, and they conveniently stock pitchers by the dispensers if they haven't all been jacked by Residence Inn guests.
This place also has two Tesla chargers in the garage, though they share with ADA spaces, which makes it of questionable legality for non-ADA-tagged Teslas to park there.
There are two main problems that leave a sour taste in my mouth. The parking charge is absolutely absurd, and apparently some front desk people will add it to your stay without actually asking you if you're parking. Then, the fact that they charge for parking at all is ridiculous, considering that if you're stealthy, you could just drive into the garage and just claim you're not parking--they don't require room keys for entry or permits displayed to prove you're a guest. This alone is enough to make me not want to come back.
The second issue is with the consistency of service. Granted, my most recent visit included Christmas Day, where they noted that they would be sending housekeeping home early. However, on all of my stays, I've noticed that housekeeping does room refreshes early in the morning, and if you're not gone by about 10am or so, good luck. I asked the front desk THREE TIMES during my last stay to have housekeeping refresh the room since who gets up early on a Christmas trip and they failed to get it done. This was a problem on a previous trip in the middle of October as well, so you can't blame the holidays. I ended up just having to get them to send up some extra towels one evening after we found our room still not refreshed.
As another note, after my previous trip, the manager asked me to contact him before my next stay so they could address the issues I had from the previous stay. I did, and got no response. So, clearly this place has a management problem.
So, if you're low maintenance and don't mind absurd parking charges, this place is pretty great, and the location is convenient to lots of things (for Christmas it's a 10 minute walk down to the Galleria and you get to avoid the traffic), just remember to bring your Tolltag.
I really want to like the place, and I could if they'd just fix the consistency issues...
