The rooms themselves are quite nice, the staff I spoke with on the phone were kind and helpful, and the location can't be beat. But this hotel has some surprising...features...that my fellow travelers might want to know about before booking their stay here.
The first is that there is no front desk, reception area, or visible staff or maintenence people on the premesis. Some have told me this is normal in the modern world. But I found this disconcerting for several reasons, first in that I don't like participating in the facial recognition nonsense on my phone necessary to complete the check-in process. Second in that there is no human person there to show you to the room, ask where to eat, etc. And third that the abscence of people gives me the wierd sensation that I am being observed by other means. In sum the whole thing giving me a creepy impersonal vibe. If you're old fasioned like me you might not find the entry process very agreeable.
The second thing potential guests should know is that the establishment is directly over a night club of the hip-hop variety, which means music is played at a high volume and the bass frequencies-- of which the music has many-- will travel through the walls, the bed, and your body for as long as they play music, and no headphones or earplugs you have will do anything about it. The people at the club are quite decent though. I went down to check it out and have a beer and they all seemed like nice working people just getting along, trying to do their jobs. If you're into that kind of thing-- alcohol, dancing, loud music, dancing, low black leather couches-- this might be the ideal place to stay!
Thirdly, and I think this should be explicit for everyone checking in, is that this hotel does not have an elevator. If you plan on bringing lugguage, or use a wheelchair, make sure you have a way to get up the stairs without hurting yourself. Because the stairway to the second floor is narrow, and long-- more than 25 steps.
Finally. In my room-- suite-- the bathroom area is open and connected to the main room. While you will be able to use the toilet in privacy, shower you will not. Two walls of the shower are floor to ceiling glass. So if you come here with your family be ready to shower in a...
Read moreI’m no hotel snob but this has been the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. -GIANT HOLE IN THE WALL -ROOM-SHAKING NOISE -EVERYTHING IS CHARGED, INCLUDING BASIC BOUSEKEEPING -0 EFFORT FROM STAFF TO ACCOMMODATE I asked for a refund so I could find another hotel and move on with the rest of my trip but they refuse to offer even a partial refund so I guess I’ll be dealing with this abomination of a hotel for 2 more awful nights. They mention the nightclub in the listing but they don’t mention that there is 0 soundproofing in this building. I’ll try to attach a video where you can hear the room shaking. The lamps were literally rattling all night. Then it took about 3 hours after the club closed for people to stop shouting outside. Again, normally not an issue but it sounded like there were no windows with how poorly it’s sound proofed. The sound issue was probably exacerbated by the fact that there’s literally a 3x4 foot hole in the wall under the window. I’ll try to attach a photo of that as well. It lets in a draft, it smells like plaster and mildew and they just said “we’ll have maintenance look into it”. I’m pretty sure maintenance put the hole in the wall. I’m not even sure how they can rent a room with a giant hole in the wall that was covered by just a plastic sheet which fell off while I was gone. I had a very itchy night so I will be checking for bedbugs when I get back but can’t confirm that yet. The bathroom and bed were pretty gross which is probably because you have to pay extra for basic housekeeping including fresh towels. Not the hotels fault but the parking is a nightmare here. Street parking is closed on the nearby blocks and the only nearby lots require you to renew your parking in the middle of the night and they cost about $60/day. Could be $40/day if you’re willing to wake up at 4am to renew. I have only had 1 or 2 issues with hotels for things like bedbugs or whatever else. They’ve always been accommodating. The reason for my review is that this hotel literally made 0 effort to be accommodating in any way. They said “if you want to cancel, you will get no refund for the...
Read moreThis place is a scam, avoid at all costs. We decided to stay here based on the hot tub pictured in the rooms, only to find out that the hot tub was non-functional once we got the room. We called customer service to figure out what the issue was, and proceeded to spend about two hours with extremely unprofessional and sassy customer service blaming us for not calling ahead to be sure that the hot tub was not available. Their major 'point' was that a hot tub was not mentioned as an amenity, despite showing it prominently in their pictures and making no statement anywhere on their website that the hot tub is not functional. We also spent quite a long time with two different customer service agents that claimed there was no manager to speak to, before the first one finally caved and sent us to a manager. The second agent claimed there was no other manager, before finally saying there is another manager and they will call us the next day. Two days later, the same customer service agent called to say that their manager is a 'very busy man' and can't call us, and we will get no compensation for being misled by their website. I don't know what is going on with this place, but it is sketchy from top to bottom. Do yourself a favor and avoid being scammed like we were and stay at a...
