I stayed at this Motel 6 for a month between March and April when I was homeless. Many can critique things like cleanliness, security, and so forth, however, in the time I stayed there, something much more meaningful became evident.
The majority of the employees are very friendly and work very hard. Melanie, who is the assistant manager who works a LOT of hours there at the front desk, and chances are, if she is not there, she is at the property next door which is owned by the same people. Melanie in particular is a non-stop, solution-oriented problem solver! Melanie also treats customers, total strangers, in such a way as I would articulate, as the "golden rule" in action. She treats you like you would want to be treated. You come there as a stranger, and leave as part of a small, unique family.
As I mentioned, I was homeless because of circumstances beyond my control and my church helped me extensively with the cost of housing while I was there.
The experience of being homeless, and not being accepted at many apartment complexes because of the extreme and hypocritical judgment of others in society, is enlightening to me. I would not trade the experience as it has brought a lot of things to the forefront in my own perspective that may have otherwise been overlooked.
Folks use Motel 6 for lodging for a plethora of reasons. Mine was out of necessity. What I found here at this Motel 6 with Melanie in particular, and several of the other employees, was a heartwarming experience where we societal misfits are even accepted as part of a small, unique family. My stay here was a true blessing overall. Melanie personally gets 5+ stars! She and her fellow employees bring the overall rating up to 4 stars, only diminished by the condition of the property which is in some need of repair.
Property condition is a 2 star rating. With care and investment, the property has a 4-star potential if proper upgrades, maintenance, security access, pool, and other physical attributes of the property are improved. If I were an investor, I would look at the potential of seeking that 4-star rating and really put into it what I know I could eventually obtain as a...
Read moreStayed here June 3, 2022. We have stayed at many Motel 6 across the midwest because we travel with our dogs. Usually they are a clean, basic, affordable place to sleep.
This one OMG! I have never been in a place so gross! The best thing about the room was that the sheets were clean. Wrinkly, but clean, and there was a smoke detector. Now, for the reasons for a poor rating...2 of the 3 lampshades were broken, bedspreads had cigarette burn holes, there were no pillows on one of the beds, there was black something on the curtain, windowsill had a layer of dark, granular dust, light switches were grimy, the mirror on the wall was streaked with an oily film, there were odd bits of trash on the floor throughout the room, there was no refrigerator, there were no trash cans, a random drywall screw was on the counter next to the sink, the bathtub and sink were grimy, there was no toilet paper, the TP holder did not have a center bar to put the TP on, the towel bar in the bathroom was broken and on the floor behind the toilet, and the light in the bathroom blinked. Finally, the toilet. When we walked in, the seat was up as if someone had just used it. The bowl was grimy, the base of the toilet and the seat and lid were dirty, there was urine around the hinges, and orange and green something was smeared on the tank lid and dripped on the seat and lid. I have pictures of it all.
I went to the front desk, the clerk handed me 2 rolls of toilet paper and said that she would call housekeeping. After about an hour of waiting, and a futile search for another affordable place that still had room and would allow dogs, someone did come and thoroughly cleaned the bathroom, brought pillows and trash cans. He sincerely apologized several times and said he would tell the manager to give us a discount. (Note: We did not recieve a discount. Someone named Lilith commented on this review and apologized for the condition of the room.)
We stayed because we had no other option. Thank goodness it was...
Read moreAbsolute nightmare of a motel.
Where do I even start...we arrived to find a fire truck in the parking lot next to the motel. We assumed it was for the restaurant next door, and went in to check in.
We were told we would "have to wait a while" before we could go to our room, because someone had broken into the building, and pulled the fire alarms. The wing of the motel we were staying at were too smoky to go into until it cleared up.
After waiting a few minutes, we were escorted to the 2nd level of the building, where we met some of the people that said they lived there, and they were angry that yet another person broke in and was disturbing their rest. The police were at the other end of the hall telling the guy that broke in that "this is your last chance".
We were told to go outside, cross the parking lot, and go into our wing of the building thru a side door. There were 15-20 people just hanging out in the parking lot, most looked like like all hope in their life had been lost.
Upon re-entering the building, the air was filled with a thick haze, which I assumed was powdered fire retardant, and a layer of the material covered the floors. At that point I decided I was NOT going to stay in this dumpster fire of a motel, and I demanded a refund.
The front desk guy tried to convince us that a different part of the motel was better, but there was no way we were going to stay here.
After reluctantly cancelling our reservation, we were heading out the front door when the offender was hauled out in hand-cuffs right in front of us, and he commented "sorry guys, all I have is my feet to open the door".
Absolutely the most insane, disturbing, crazy, and unacceptable experience I've ever had at a motel.
AVOID AT ALL...
