I haven't finished my stay here and this hotel is the worst part of my vacation. If you are considering booking here because of the budget price near the beach. Look elsewhere, because you will regret every moment staying here.
I will corroborate every negative review that I have seen previously about this hotel. Starting with the décor, as it is sterile and jail like. It's all grey, Ikea furniture. The terrazzo floors are old and worn. The tub in the bathroom is missing it's drain stopper. Additionally, my door to my room doesn't close/lock itself. I have to force the door closed and jiggle the handle for it to lock.
Next, the service. Non-existant and terrible. I got one day of room service, and then the second day I asked the cleaner to wait for me to leave in 10 min, I came back to a room that I know they were in because they left a roll of trash bags but nothing had been turned over. No one manages the front desk, which is locked in the main building. You have to talk to them through a Ring camera and you can't even hear what they are saying.
Environment, I woke up my first night to people screaming outside my door from 12-1 am (it was a Thursday night). Happening at the same time, someone was rearranging furniture above me so all I heard for an hour was the scraping of furniture legs on the floor/ceiling. Also, the walls are so thin there is no privacy if a neighbor has their TV on or are having conversations.
Finally, I have gone 2 days without any hot water and I have complained each day and I have received excuses each time. First excuse was, oh it takes 15 min for the water in the room to warm up. Let it run for 30 min to so success, I get some excuse the boiler/engine/whatever was suppose to be serviced soon. I really don't know what they said because I couldn't understand the poor speaker on their Ring camera because no one was in the office.
(Last Day Update: As I as posting this review a staff member comes to my door questioning if I even have a reservation to stay here because they can't find me in the system, when I have already spent two nights in my room. She came back 3 times total as we worked to figure it out. It was discovered after my first complaint the management took it upon themselves to check me out of my room and 'relocate' me in their system and then failed to inform me of this change. I made management show me the room prior to relocation to confirm there was hot water, which there was. The new room was sufficient. I will warn anyone that is in a renovated bathroom shower that their choice of tile IN THE SHOWER gets extremely slippery when wet and is unsafe).
Service star raised from 1 to 2 as they attempted to...

Our recent stay at The Winterset Suites can only be described as a harrowing experience that left me questioning the integrity of their business. The online images and reviews painted a picture of a charming and comfortable motel, but the reality was far from it.
Upon entering the room, the first thing that caught my attention was the cracked tile floors, which seemed like a hazard waiting to happen. The sunken beds, reminiscent of sleeping on a hammock, provided no comfort whatsoever. It felt as though the mattresses had seen better days and were desperately in need of replacement.
The bathroom was a breeding ground for disgust, with mold growing freely in every nook and cranny. The leaking sink made the entire space a perpetual wetland, leaving the floor slippery and hazardous. I couldn't help but wonder if the management was aware of the potential health risks associated with such unsanitary conditions.
Venturing outside, the pool area was a further testament to the motel's neglect. The pool itself was a sorry sight – run down and void of any semblance of maintenance.
Attempting to unwind at the end of the night proved to be a futile endeavor, as the TV apps were non-functional. It was infuriating to realize that even the simplest of amenities were not up to par.
Adding insult to injury, the room itself was tilted, creating a disorienting and uncomfortable environment. Many lights didn't work, plunging the room into darkness and adding another layer to our already dismal experience.
Complaints to the management were met with a visit from a representative who, to her credit, acknowledged the appalling conditions. However, the motel had no better alternative accommodations available for the night. This left us with no choice but to endure the nightmare we had unwillingly checked into.
Promised callbacks the next few days turned into a waiting game, with the management consistently failing to follow through. It's disheartening to think that an establishment can operate with such blatant disregard for the well-being and satisfaction of its guests.
In conclusion, our experience at The Winterset Suites was a lesson in the importance of verifying online reviews and not falling victim to deceptive advertising.
This motel is a prime example of how a seemingly charming facade can mask the reality of a dilapidated and poorly managed establishment. Save yourself the trouble and seek accommodations...
Read moreI stayed at the Beach Garden hotel a year ago and had a wonderful experience, so my husband and I decided to return. Unfortunately, this time was a complete disaster. Upon arrival, we found out that the pool was closed, and instead of accommodating us properly, they told us to go to another hotel’s pool, the Winterset, where the conditions were unacceptable. The worst part? They didn’t even have a bathroom! Every time we needed to use the restroom, we had to cross the street and walk to another building—which was extremely inconvenient.
Despite this, we tried to make the best of it. The second day while at the pool, we had music playing at a moderate volume and even asked the other guests if it was okay. Everyone agreed, and we started chatting with them. But suddenly, at around 6:30 PM, a man came up to us demanding that we turn off the music because he “couldn’t sleep.” This seemed unreasonable since it was still early, but we lowered the volume anyway to be polite.
Ten minutes later, the same man came back, now speaking rudely and aggressively, demanding we turn off the music completely. I asked him to be respectful and said, “Could you please be nice? You can say it in a good way.” His response? “You stupid girl, turn off the music!” This was completely offensive. I’m a lady, and he should’ve treated me with the same respect we treated him. I stood my ground and told him not to insult me. He continued yelling and making a scene, and to my surprise, no one from the hotel came to intervene or stop the situation.
When we returned to our room, I pulled back the sheets to find a cut toenail at the bottom of the bed, where the feet go. This was absolutely disgusting and showed a lack of proper cleaning. After this, I decided to leave that night.
I paid for two nights for nothing, only to be mistreated and disrespected by another guest and forced to stay in subpar conditions. The hotel staff did nothing to address the issue, and frankly, the guest behavior was rude and unacceptable. This place has definitely gone downhill, and I will never return. I strongly do not recommend this hotel, especially Winterset, where we were sent.
I didn’t ask for any compensation, discounts, or anything; I simply left that night. I’m only leaving this review to warn others so they don’t have to go through the same experience. After months of hard work, we paid for two nights to relax and celebrate Valentine’s, and instead, it was a complete...
