The Dolphin Hollywood Hotel — Hotel in Hollywood

My family was in need of a place to stay in Hollywood for one night, and since we weren't renting a car, we really preferred to have something right on the beach. I scoured the Internet trying to find an affordable place near/on the Broadwalk that wasn't dirty or big infested, and finally I came across the Dolphin Hollywood Hotel. It was literally steps away from the beach and on a quieter place on the Broadwalk, which was so nice for nighttime, but it was still only a 5-10 min walk to all the action. The room was like a standard hotel room except it had a full kitchen (another huge plus!), a huge shower in the bathroom with amazing water pressure (but only if you like a really strong pressure…sensitive people beware!), but the highlight was the staff. They were so helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. I called ahead to let them know we would be arriving a few hours early because of how our flight worked out, and I was worried there wouldn't be a place to put our luggage while we waited for our room to be ready. They assured me they would hold on to our luggage and made a note in their computer about that. Well, the day arrived for us to check in, and while we were still at the airport I received a message from them that our room was ready early and to go ahead and check in as soon as we could get to the hotel. This was well before 3pm, so I was ecstatic! Everyone who worked there that we met as we were checking in and out were so sweet and genuinely kind, I was sorry that we were only able to stay the one night. Despite this hotel being rated 8.6 & ⭐️⭐️⭐️ on booking.com, it's definitely NOT that good. It was awful. Room smelled like mildew. There was mildew in shower, including in the soap holder (it left black on the soap). One of the matresses was held up by wood blocks underneath. Plan to wash the dishes/ utensils/ pots before using. No baking sheets provided to use in oven. No one was in the office except when I checked in. I had to call everytime I had a question or needed something. I asked for additional hand towels & wash cloths (I only wanted enough for the 3 of us in the room), no extras were left by housekeeping despite being told there would be. Air conditioner is plugged into an extension cord that is plugged in between the 2 beds. This left no outlets to use bedside without unplugging the light (fortunately, i always bring a power strip with me for just such emergencies).There is a for sale sign on...

I've stayed here so many times I cannot count. If you want to stay on the beach this is your spot. Don't believe everything you read! The staff is great, you can't beat the location and it's on the beach so don't expect room service and high cost valet parking. Expect a clean room that smells clean and a little sand here and there.
