Overall: 4.1/5 (dine in)
Cafe Fig is located inside Hotel Figueroa. When you enter through the front door, go all the way to the back and make a left. They have both indoor & outdoor patio seating. We were seated right by the food window & outdoor patio entrance but didn't feel like we were in the way and were able to talk without any issues. There were a few moments where the waiters queued up behind us to pick up the food but it wasn't too bad since we didn't need to get up to use the restroom or anything. Their table setting is very cute so I can see why it's a popular brunch place, especially for the ladies. Couple that with the hanging lights full of greenery and the space gives off a greenhouse vibe. Prices are a bit higher than usual but I don't think it's worth it; I would prefer dining at Openaire over Cafe Fig.
Fried Chicken & Waffles ($25): This came with a side of butter and Korean sauce. The waffles were okay since they were lacking flavor & weren't crunchy. The entree came with only 1 piece of fried chicken. The outside batter was very crispy but easily breaks when you cut the chicken. The gochujang sauce paired well with the fried chicken so you didn't really need any additional sauce. The entree was good overall but definitely not worth it.
House Arugula Side Salad ($5): Came with a very light dressing so it tasted pretty close to eating it raw. Would skip for sure.
Classic Buttermilk Pancakes ($16): You can choose from 3 flavors - blueberry, banana, or chocolate chip. We went with blueberry which was really good. The blueberries were sweet, the pancakes were soft. These were much better than the waffles.
Taro Latte ($10): The latte came out hot. The waiter didn't ask us if we wanted ice or warm so I'm not sure if you can only get it war. I got oat milk which paired well with the taro. Subtle flavors and was good but definitely...

I was ignored by no less than four capable employees. As a solo traveller I was obviously sitting at the bar. I was told immediately the bar was closing in 15 minutes so being the brilliant genius I am, I ordered two glasses of wine.
Ten minutes later, I had to remind buddy who I was sitting directly in front of, about my wine. Now I’ve been a bartender before and pouring wine is the easiest part of the gig.
I then made a small request for some bread on the side of my salad which I was assured was quite possible. Mediterranean salad was delivered without issue sans bread. Bread request was made again. Ten minutes later, bread request was made yet again - I CAN NOT eat salad without bread so everything was at a complete stand still. I asked two more individuals about the bread before it found its way to me. After all that carb anticipation, it was disappointing, no butter, oil, no ‘how is everything Miss’ - nada.
The bar staff at this point had accelerated their closing speed to mach ten to the point that wind was blowing through my hair. You can imagine the task it was for me to get that second pre-ordered glass of vino.
Anywho, all to say, ambiance was fantabulous, food was okay and service was a fail, equaling 2.5 stars rounded up to a generous 3 stars for my first ever dinner in LA, not worth leaving my $$$ hotel room for - though a promising location for a dine and dash.

Read moreMy wife made reservations for Café Fig. When the staff asked what the occasion was, she mentioned that it was my birthday. Their staff informed us that they would do what they can to make it special. I was happy to hear this surprise but we were quickly disappointed with our time at the café.
Although we had reserved a table we still had to wait ten minutes to be seated, and there was no attention to my birthday. Not a big deal... just something noticeable as they had made an effort to other tables celebrating with signs but not ours.
The wait staff was overwhelmed despite not being crowded on a Sunday morning. No crowds, no lines... just a full café. We sat for 30 minutes before being asked for a drink order and additional 30 minutes for over easy eggs and a waffle. We could tell the waiters were overwhelmed with bussing their own tables.
The food was lackluster. For a restaurant that prides itself in such a beautiful aesthetic; our food (eggs three ways and a waffle with berries) was cold by the time it reached us. Overall, everything was flavorless with the exception of the coffee - outmatched only by the local Starbucks.
We were NOT the only couple frustrated with the service and food. It seemed like every table had issues. A pair of women seated after us even complained to the manager (we remained silent).
We left 20% cash tip for the waiter - we knew he was working hard... we're unsure what was going on in the kitchen but overall, it's probably mismanaged. A lot of staff running around but it did not look like any tables were getting speedy service.
I would not...
