I normally don't give 5 stars but this place was absolutely delicious. It's one of the best "higher end" Mexican restaurants I've ever been to so far. It's DineLA week and decided to give this place a try. They were offering a 3 course lunch meal for $25. We were a party of 3 and we decided to order a variety to share. When we arrived we were the only customers. By the time we left there were about 6 other parties there. Might be a covid thing but really want to see this business continue.
For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp taquito, the jalapeno cream soup and the pork belly bites. There were smaller portions compared to when you order from the regular menu. The jalapeno cream soup was to die for (5/5). It was a very creamy and sweet flavor, there were bits of corn and cheese in it and the jalapeno gave it a lite kick. Mmmm so yummy. Definitely must try. The pork belly was crispy and flavorful (4/5). It came with tortillas and a lite salad and salsa so we wrapped it up to eat. Very good. The shrimp taquito (3/5) was good too but nothing out of the ordinary in terms of flavor. However, they put 1 huge shrimp wrapped in tortilla and then fried it. Love the presentation. Definitely worth the price. Normal places chop up small shrimps.
For the entrees, we got 1 order of their famous carnitas and 2 orders of the tacos de hongos. The carnitas came out first. Wow they were so flavorful and the meat so tender. I've tried carnitas else where and they usually over salt it. (5/5). The tacos de hongos is basically skirt steak served in a skillet with mushrooms, onions and cheese. Ohhh so yummy. Meat was flavorful and very very tender. Barely had to chew LOL and the crispy cheese and the mushrooms on the skillet was a good pairing (5/5). Both entrees were served with hand made tortillas which were delicious as well. I usually don't like corn tortillas but they made it very good and you didn't taste any corn pieces. The only bad thing was we received all the entrees but the tortillas didn't come out until almost 10 minutes later. They need to work better on timing.
We ended up taking the desserts togo but we ordered 1 flan (4/5) and 2 butter cakes (5/5). Both were very yummy and not too sweet. The flan was more on the thicker texture compared to others I've had.
We sat at a bar table. Service was good. She came and refilled water and was pretty attentive. Parking was in the Lot E and during lunch time Monday to Friday certain restaurants at LA Live do validate. Sol Agave did not validate but we ordered a drink from starbucks and got free validation.
I will definitely be back again. They also offer happy hour so will come take advantage...
Read moreThe food was great -- I'll give you that. But the service? Absolutely horrible, and I left feeling beyond disappointed. My lovely friends took me out for a birthday dinner here because they'd raved about the food, and I had never been. Safe to say, the experience was not what any of us expected.
The ambiance was fine, though for dinner service, the lights absolutely should have been dimmed -- a basic touch they clearly overlooked.
Now, onto the real issue: the service, or rather, the blatant discrimination and judgment that my dear friend endured before I even arrived. She got there first because I was running late, and what she experienced from two waiters was completely unacceptable and frankly, unbelievable.
First, there was an issue with the beer. She specifically asked for it in a bottle -- not from the tap -- because it tastes different. Instead, they brought it from the tap anyway, only to then inform her they don't even carry it in bottles. That interaction alone was handled poorly and dismissively. Then she asked for a Remy cocktail, and instead of simply saying whether they had it or not, they sent out Armando, the manager. He claimed they didn't carry Remy at all.
Fast forward -- I arrive with another friend, and surprise, the issues with the drinks continue. My friend still wanted a Remy with pineapple. So the friend who came in with me asked for the same thing.
And now, suddenly -- miraculously -- they carry Remy? And not only that, but they actually had the audacity to say, "It's the most expensive bottle, and it's not opened." Excuse me? No one asked about the price. No one questioned what it cost. This was a birthday celebration, not a negotiation. The insinuation was insulting. It was condescending, belittling, and absolutely out of line.
The fact that staff were swapped out after the initial beer issue only for the next server to continue with the same discriminatory tone is beyond baffling. It's clear this wasn't a one-off -- this is a pattern, and it's disgusting.
So yes -- the food was good. But that's nowhere near enough to make up for the disrespect and poor treatment we experienced. I strongly recommend your team -- especially the Manager Armando -- undergo serious training in customer service and anti-discrimination. Because no guest should ever feel...
Read moreWe decided to have dinner here while attending a concert at Crypto Arena all based on 4.5 stars and pictures! I was excited to have some good drinks and dinner before the concert. We made reservations for 6:00 and immediately were seated! So that was a plus! Server didn't come to our table for drink order until maybe 15 min and this was way before it got busy. A table next to us got up and left and we wondered why they left after not even ordering. We should have followed them out. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas and I have to say I don't know what was in there but I did not taste any shrimp. Perhaps something over powered the shrimp but it was not tasty. The rice and beans were decent. The chips and salsa and bean dip were good. My husband ordered lobster enchiladas and they were just okay. Nothing we would ever crave again. I ordered two drinks. A pineapple margarita that was done after 2-3 sips and cost $18-20. And a coconut margarita. The coconut was good but mostly sugar. I joked with my husband and said we could have eaten at Mastros steakhouse and had yummy drinks and something small to eat for what we paid here and would have been beyond happy. A big martini over there is $20 and they leave the shaker for an extra drink! I would have given this place 3 stars but I would be lying. To top it off the waiter hardly ever came over and we needed refills on water and soda. It was so frustrating that he would disappear and wouldn't come to check on us. We had to flag other...
